Re: Teachers who tutor...can you give me some info?
I don't know for elementary for secondary we let guidance know and they will tell parents and our chair so that any calls that come in they forward it to us. If you do not live in the same district you may also want to call the equivalent people in the district you live.

we let our reading teacher know we are interested in tutoring and she keeps a list to refer parents to us. The drawback is that you are limited on what you can charge. ($40/hr ) I don't like tutoring but my coworkers have put out ads in the penny saver and hung up filers which has gotten them good responses. They charge from $50-$90/hr. I used to charge between that too depending on the disability/needs/location etc. I am cert. elementary, sped, reading and speech.

i tutor many students in my district and have gotten them through word of mouth. I told other teachers in my bldg that i tutor in case parents inquire- many do after the 1st report card or if their kids are struggling. many are word of mouth.. parents find out from other parents that you tutor and they find you.. at least thats what happened to me. I am certified in el ed and reading but only charge $45. I know i can get more but the area I work- these parents dont have a lot so i think its a good price. If I do get more clients, I will up my price to $50.

My DH and I both only tutored kids around our grade levels that we teach so we had materials. Word of mouth started it for us in the school and then onto ads.
good luck!

Re: Teachers who tutor...can you give me some info?
I usually talk to the parents about the kids needs. Or if I know the teacher, I will go and talk to them and see where they are struggling. From there, I create lessons to work with them, usually consisting of a book with some writing activity to go with it. I teach 3rd grade and have a lot of material so Ill take from there. I dont keep any official assessment. I will keep parents informed of the progress, where the kids need to work on etc. If its math, Ill try to bring games, activities to make it more interesting. Sometimes, Parents will have me work on homework and projects with the student and I will reinforce and teach one on one skills they need.
I tutor 6th grade also and I usually go and work with what they have. the kids I work with have reports and projects and major tests so I work on test taking skills, their writing, etc...
Hope this helps!
When I tutor, I go to the houses of the students who I have become friendly withthe parents. I have a folder with their work but I dont get too technical or organized.
