Teachers...help needed w/ times tables

Hi ladies, this is my first year in 3rd grade & we're going to start multiplication after the Christmas holiday. What is the best way to introduce the concept (they've had skip counting & 2's, 5 in 2nd grade). What do you ladies do? Thanks so much.

I introduced multiplication to my 2nd grade class at the end of last year. I just explained to them that the X means groups of. So 3X2 means 3 groups of 2. Then we illustrated pictures of multiplication facts to grasp the concept of groups of. Also I find that chanting or singing the facts help them memorize the facts. Here is a link to the songs.

Manipulatives can work well too - like blocks or chips, etc. that can be grouped.
