Teachers.....Question about block scheduling
Is their anyone that teaches using block scheduling? When I was in Grad school, I know that my prof didn't think it was a good idea. Those of you that have block scheduling, what do you think about it?

My district doesn't but I think Kings Park does or did at one point.
thas is more of a city thign but thanks to our new asst principal who comes from the city, my school is going to have that next year...
I went to Kings Park HS. Block Scheduling began when I was in 10th grad (so I had one regular scheduled year in 9th grade) and I can say block scheduling is much better! As long as the teacher doesn't lecture for the whole block! I remember Calculus.. we had a lecture, then we had group work doing problems, then we went over it, had a little more of the lecture. It made the homework so much easier. I really needed that whole period to learn Calulus. For science it was good for experiments. In gym we went on trips... we had bowling and golf outings and there was plenty of time. It also was excellent preparation for college. I had an easier time adjusting than some of my friends from College because I was already used to the long classes and having the classes every other day.
i think it depends on the subject. certain things like math - i think work well with block scheduling. like someone else said - lecture, give the kids problems, they work together, and review. for something that was strictly lecture - like social studies - i don't think it would be as effective, IMO.
I teach ms in the city and I love it for English hate it for social studies it all depends on the subject and the kids
