Teacup Yorkie questions

Original post by MrsD71208

I am VERY interested in getting a teacup Yorkie puppy in the near future. I was wondering if anyone could share info about them with me. I've never had one and am wondering what they are like.

Also, can anyone recommend a breeder or a place to look at to find a good one?

TIA

Petite Pets in Huntington behind the Walt Whitman Mall, on New York Ave....the owner isn't the nicest but she has perfect dogs and when she tells you they will be 4 lbs they will be 4 lbs...a lot of places like shake-a- paw K-9 corral and other pet stores just look to sell you what you want not actually what they are....HTH

p.s If you go tell her Meg M sent you!!

p.s she gets all her dogs from great breaders, she only has 2 breader she will use

My cousin got a teacup Maltese from here a year or so ago and they had no problems with it at all (and it is the cutest thing ever!)

too bad I worked at the store for years and the the breaders are highly recommended and she spent thousands on the dogs and would only carry 15 puppies at a time....not a puppy mill or a regular pet store....Do some research hunny before you bash a store and say they get their dogs from puppy mills... she would buy the whole litters and all her dogs are AKC certified pure breeds, not to mention the owner rescues the dogs, has them on special diets and only will use natural food shampoo and other natural product on her dogs, she has put he life into animals and is a huge activist against puppy mills...

I am sorry but i have to disagree, NO BREEDER would ever sell their puppies to a petstore
Its called a puppymill and conditions are terrible.

Well I disagree with you. & I happen to be knowledgable about the place.

In general pet store puppies are from mills, MIll conditions are horrible and I do not condone that in the least.

Before I got my dogs I was looking into the breed, breeders & information for 3 years before I ended up getting them. You can ask anyone I know but I am practically a vet tech by know with all the research & holistic care I provide my dogs.

I looked into breeders as well. Which is always a good idea as well & preferred if you want to get a 'show quality' dog. But since I only wanted at that time a companion puppy, they had a perfect lil one for me.

But I know the place & the puppies. She is deals with two separate people that breeds the puppies most of her own dogs (she has like 7 of her own ) are from those breeders. The puppies have the lineage & correct paperwork. Plus to be honest they are quite taking care of there. The puppies are not caged, the are socialized in group crib settings & she will not sell the dog to someone she feels is not reputable. SHe is mean at first but she does it to weed people out to be honest. She is very thorough on how she expects you to take care of the dogs.

PS. I do not recommend a YOrkie is you are not at home most of the time. The breed particularly loves attention & can have health concerns. Feedings have to occur several times a day (especially with really small ones) and you have to be wary of their blood sugar dropping & going into hypoglycemic shock if they are hurt or do not eat for a long period of time.

Don't get me wrong the dogs are best but they require a lot of work.

I will look on there too....I'm just searching for an adorable dog, that stays under 10 pounds and is great with people/kids.

Re: Teacup Yorkie questions

Regular Yorkies should only be between 6-7 pounds anyway (if they're from a reputable breeder who has all records and can prove who the mom and dad are, etc).

6-7 lbs is still pretty small, without being SO small that they will have those major health issues.

I literally JUST had a yorkie for a week and had to give him back because of weird allergies...i thought they were hypo-allergenic, but i guess it's more the saliva than the hair i was allergic to. he was a regular size yorkie and was tiny and supercute...

look into it!
