Tears for this 2011 Bride ...

I posted this on the 'Brides Helping Brides' but I am still seriously upset. I am totally stressing out and feel like I am going to have a full blown anxiety attack! My future hubby and I are trying to decide on our photographer and I just cant figure it out! We went to see a photographer who my sister, brother and cousin used for their weddings. Mind you it was 10 years ago ... but the work was still amazing! They said they could most certainly give us all types of photography that we are interested in and I loved their albums.

But then I see all these super 'artsy' photos and dont know if I should be doing that. UGH ... Someone help! Please ... I asked a friend and she said their photos were just 'eh'

We want a mixture ... traditional, candid and photojournalistic. They agreed that they would be able to do all. I dont know I mean I feel like everyone has rants and raves about each vendor. Some people LOVE them, some people HATE them. It depends on so many specifics its hard to say!

I dont know what to do ... really!

Re: Tears for this 2011 Bride ...

PS, look at Thomas Paul, Patken, Twelfth Night, Duet and J'adore ... those were the top 5 on my list and I must have looked at tHOUSANDS of photos while I was looking for the type of photography I wanted.

Just look at websites. You'll know the photos you like when you see them. And read the reviews on Brides Review. I kept looking at photos before I knew who took them and almost every time I said to myself OMG, I love her photos!!! They were THomas Paul... that's how I knew.

Good luck

I of course want traditional photos ... in a sense of I want family portraits taken. Those are important! But I also want photos of me getting dressed. Our venue is so spectacular that I also want us to have some amazing photojournalistic photos. I felt like Kornfeld had beautiful pictures until I showed a friend who said they were just 'eh' and now I am floundering. Maybe its that they dont have as nice of a webpage. I just dont know but I am beyond upset and confused.

LOL, I get the feeling she doesn't even really know yet.. which is why I think she should look at lots of photos before she goes crazy with appointments.

I swear, I do know! I want traditional family portraits but then want photojournalistic pictures. The studio said they could but my girlfriend said the photos on their page were just 'eh' so it made me second guess.

yeah.. you may just want to spend your time browsing online portfolios of companies before you actually sit down

alot of good photogs would have a nice balance & diversity

Hey girlie!! 10 Years ago is a long time and a lot has changed then especially photography wise due to the digital age. Honestly your brother, sister and cousin might have had a great experience with their wedding photography but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will apply to you based on your different wants and needs. This is your wedding and you are your own individual with separate tastes. If you met with them and still aren’t satisfied make appointments to meet with other photogs so as to make a wise, well informed and above all decision you will be comfortable with. This choice is something you will remember for the rest of your marriage so focus on your experience & no one elses.

With that being said – since you mentioned that you wanted a mix of traditional, candid and photojournalistic I will go ahead and recommend our photographer – Lighthouse Photography. I researched 37 photographers and made a top 10 list followed by the top five we were going to meet with. Thomas Paul photography and duet had my date booked so I didn’t get to meet with them but I agree they do great work.
Out of the five photographers we met with, regarding Lighthouse, I was blown away by first and foremost the quality of their photos it is truly something you have to see in person, I was simply amazed by the stylistic photography both traditional and modern – and judging by the albums they really have a keen sense of tailoring and capturing the couples personalities. We made sure to see all our options and honestly their pricing blew everyone out of the water but asides from that the quality is what really made our decision Florio’s (owner) personality was so warm and inviting (as all vendors are) but I could also tell there was a connection and I could tell that not only was he passionate about his craft but also about ensuring our happiness... the connection between you and the photographer on your wedding day is also very important. I hope this input helps you out.

Thanks everyone! After I sorted it all out emotionally wise I think it would have been best to say ...

'Has anyone ever used Kornfeld Studios? If not, what do you think of the photos on their page?'

Decisions decisions! I hope I am not like this for all of my decisions ha ha

Re: Tears for this 2011 Bride ...

you really need to just pick the photographer that you feel most comfortable with. the one who's style is like your own.

it doesn't matter who else has used them or their reviews, as long as you have a pleasant experience with them, that's all that matters.

reading reviews is great, but it also causes a lot of confusion, so just follow your gut.

Re: Tears for this 2011 Bride ...

We booked Duet because we wanted those Artsy photos, but Duet provides 2 photographers on your day, and the assistant photographer is the one who does all the traditional portraits.

Try Duet, they have great prices and they give you 2 photographers.

Remember that it's tougher to make artsy photos then it is to do more posed shots. The photojournalistic photographer should be able to do regular traditional portraits, whereas the traditional photographer might not be able to pull off something more artsy you know?

good luck!!!
