So is anyone planning on getting their teeth whitened before the wedding? I was just at my dentist this morning for a routine cleaning and I saw the brochure for it and was flipping through in the chair. I was asking him about it and even though it's a lot of $$ up front (because you have to get the molds done of your teeth to make the trays) the up-keep afterward really isn't that bad ($50 for the gel to do a touch up).
He said if i am going to do it, I should definitely try and do it sometime next year (like maybe in the summer) so I can see the results and then before the wedding if I feel I need to another whitening I can do it again.
Do you girls think it's worth it? He showed me his patient book of those that did the whitening (specifically one girl who's teeth looked exactly like mine - even though both of us look like our teeth or fine) and her after picture actually made me say 'Holy $#&@!'

Re: Teeth Whitening
I don't think I'll have the money for it. I will most likely be investing in the crest white strips to do the week before the wedding. I've used them before and had good results, but the results don't last very long. So as long as I have white teeth for that day it's fine. Haha

DH is a dentist. He made me the trays, which worked well. I wanted to touch up the whitening just before the wedding, though, but was out of the gel. He told me to use the new Aquafresh trays. They were a little more awkward than the custom trays, but much cheaper and worked well for me.
Both ways did make my teeth more sensitive for a few days.

Re: Teeth Whitening
i'm actually thinking about doing invisalign some time with in the next year.. I had braces as a kid but never wore my retainers and its something I would like to fix, so I figured I might as well do it before the wedding. My dentist told me that he would throw in the whitening for free...Not that its really free because I'll be spending a ton of money on the invisalign anyways.. Even if I wasn't doing the invisalign I would definately do the whitening.

Do you think it's worth it for me to try out the Aquafresh trays first before committing to the actual whitening?

Re: Teeth Whitening
I'll prob just do crest white strips. FH used to work at a dentist's office and they gave him a $500 treatment for free bc it was a new procedure and wanted to test it out. His teeth looked good, but I didn't think they looked so amazing that I'd go out and spend $500, but maybe it was just the kind or bleaching that he got, not sure...If you have the $ for it tho, go for it!!!

Re: Teeth Whitening
I am definately doing whitening. I have a lot of stains on my teeth from my braces that I have been self-conscious about for a LONG time.
I actually just went to the dentist myself & asked the same question. She suggested that if I feel more comfortable that I start with the Crest strips, but they only cover your front 4 teeth & they're only 3% peroxide. In the long run she said the trays really pay off. They are as much as 10x stronger- & the gel should really last about a year.
I think I'm going to spring & get the trays. It seems like its way more expensive but $250 for the trays that are stronger & the cost of a whole year- vs. the strips, you wind up paying for the trays with 10x LESS effectiveness after 10 boxes (& there are only 14 strips in a box- so if you use them everyday, 10 boxes is getting you less than 6 months).
& that's how I see it

In my non-professional opinion, I would try the Aquafresh ones first. They're much cheaper and for me, they worked just as well as the custom trays. Plus, the custom trays, I had to wear to bed. The Aquafresh ones only had to stay in for about 45 mins.

Re: Teeth Whitening
My dentist is really great. and he actually told me, dont waste your money on professional whitening. he said crest whitening strips are the best and do the same job if you are diligent with it. and they dont harm you. so thats what i will be doing.

Re: Teeth Whitening
Did you talk to your dentist about this?
My mom had made me the trays before - and I have my wisdom teeth taken out and my teeth shifted so the trays didn't fit anymore. Now every 2 years or so I get the ready made trays from the dentist and they work just as good, if not better. I don't pay for any of these treatments but I know it will save you a lot of $$ if you get the ready made trays through the dentist.

Yes, definitely! If you don't like the results you achieve then you can always have it done professionally.

Re: Teeth Whitening
Hey I had whitening done by a dentist and to be honest my teeth did go up a few shades whiter but then the results fade...whereas, my friends use advanced crest whitening strips every other night and their teeth are waaaaayyy whiter than mine! and they drink lots of coffee and red wine!! so i would save some $ and try the whitening strips. plus i did not like the sensitivity feeling i felt for a few days after the pro-whitening.

I used Crest Whitestrips for a few days a few years ago. My teeth were SUPER sensitive for a few days after using them!! It was horrible! I would like to use them closer to the wedding but I'm afraid that my teeth will be super sensitive again. Does anyone know if there are any whitening products that don't make your teeth too sensitive??
