Thought I'd pass this on for those that may want to add their names to the list. A new 'Do not call' list goes into effect May 1st but you've got to get your name in by April 1st. Telemarketers will be subject to a $5000 dollar fine they call you and you're on the list.
I did this when it first started...and it is wonderful...I have only received 2 unwanted calls (since 2001) (from Body Heat btw)
when I got those calls...I calmly took their name and then told them that I was on the NYS Do Not Call List...and that I was going to report them...they claimed that they got my name from the Thatched Cottage...but that is not an excuse!!! Only companies that you have ALREADY done business with can call you...and they can not sell/rent your number...
I also put my parents on it in the beginning...and they say they are starting to get telemarketers..
