Tell me this isn't screwed up.....

I applied for the masters program at Dowling in Early Childhood Education....got a letter of acceptance, a financial aid package, and a phone call saying, 'Come down a register, you're all set.' So I go to register yesterday and I'm sitting with a graduate advisor, she opens my file and says, 'Oh, well, according to our standards, you don't technically have a real B.A.' WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN? I have a BA from Suny Stony Brook, HELLO!?!?!??! And then she proceeds to tell me that I need 21 MORE undergrad credits to enroll in their program and to 'go back to Suffolk or something.' I was like, EXCUSE ME? First of all, I can't GO BACK to Suffolk, because, um, I NEVER WENT THERE. And second of all, SCREW THAT! So I told her to stick it where the sun don't shine and marched my way on down to Stony Brook to enroll in their masters. ARRRGH! So mad! Why in HELL would you send me an acceptance letter, AND tell me to come register if YOU KNOW I CAN'T???

That's terrible!!

I would demand to speak to a person in charge. That is unacceptable that you would receive a letter like that and then take time out of YOUR schedule to go there for nothing.

I would definatly demand someone explain that letter to me.

You knwo what, I see it as her doing me a HUGE favor. Stony Brook, as I already knew, is HALF the price of Dowling and right near my new job, so it's their loss that I will not be going there And I'll take the extra loan money and build a sign that says they s u c k!

OMG that is insane!! I am so sorry - Are you sure they werent making a mistake - wrong file or something? Isnt there anyone higher up that you coudl talk to -that had some courtesy to know your file and what school you graduated from?

RIDICULOUS, I never heard of such a thing. I would write a letter and escalate this just to make their lives miserable.

Thanks girls, I think I will write a letter. It just makes me mad. I wasted all that stupid time sitting in that office with no a/c.

that's terrible! i am getting my master's from dowling now only bc they have the saturday program. i don't like the school though at all. i think my program is a joke.

are you sure the lady was looking at the right file?

it's better that you find this out now rather than right before graduation when they tell you you havent' technically graduated!!!

I don't know what she meant about your BA, b/c Stoneybrook is a top school!!

but when I got my masters, I had to have 18 credits prerequisite before I entered the program...since I took them as an undergrad...I was fine...but there were people who had to take them before getting into the program...perhaps that is what she meatn...but did not explain it too well...

Hubby goes there, and everytime he goes to do something he always gets the runaround

I know some grad. programs..you do need some prerequisites like Erica said, but to say that you dont have a real master's is ABSURD. Glad you told her a piece of your mind

Erica, I definitely knew that's what she was talking about, but it made me mad that they would tell me I was accepted into the program and that I should come down and register. And when I asked if I could just take the undergrad credits there, she was like, 'Um, nope, sorry, come back when you have them fulfilled.' So I was SUPER P-Oed!

Well...rachel...as you know, you and I have the same exact degree from the same exact school. So, I must not have a real BA too and I'll never ever consider going to Dowling!
