Well the mortgage company I work for just went out of business. My FH just got a huge raise. He said to not worry about anything. He said with all the wedding planning, if I wanted I could just focus on that. Also we want to start trying to have children right after the wedding. I know this sounds crazy, but since I was little I always wanted to be a stay at home mom. WOW I should have been born in 1920. He has the same dream I do, I guess he always thought it would be cool if one of us was home. Does this make me sound like a horrible person?

I think that is great!! I wish I didn't have to work. We own a house and our mortgage is $$$, but I know when we have kids, I am going to want to stay home...

Not at all! I would like to be a stay at home mom eventually. It's great that you can stay home and FH is so good that he is okay with it. I have a friend who said that he would not like it all if his wife stayed at home and if she decided to quit her job and do that, he would more than likely divorce her!
Good for you though for being able to concentrate on what's important!

It doesn't make you a horrible person. Consider yourself lucky. There are many girls who would love to do the same thing, and cant because of finances.
You are a lucky girl.

Re: Temporarily Retired
I was so stressed out when I lost my job, because we just bought a house with a hefty mortgage too. But he said he never wanted to get married till he was able to support us both. So he said it all works out. I actually started sewing. I am going to be the new Martha Stewart. LOL Dinner on the table at 6

I see nothing wrong with this! I think if you and FH agree and it makes the two of you happy, go for it!

Re: Temporarily Retired
What makes yout hink that is a bad thing!!!!! Children, if possible, should be raised by their parents. I wish I could've stayed home during my duaghters fromitive years, but back then I was a single mom. FH is NYPD so with their salary, I will always have to work! But we opposite shifts and my parents live upstairs, so family is always around. I think it's true when they say it takes a village to raise a child. If I could we would both want one of us to raise the kids, but that usually isn't the case in this overpriced world we live in. If you can do it Godspeed. Have fun with it!

Thanks, I told him I feel like a mooch. I have never had anybody take care of me. I feel bad. Last year. I had some dental issues and needed a lot of work. My credit is less than perfect so he actually spent 10,000 to fix my mouth. Then 6 months ago he bought me a car for my b-day. I don't want him to think he is a sugar daddy. I love him so much. He is the most amazing man. He said he just loves to buy me things. I feel bad because I can't buy him gifts like that

You don't sound like a horrible person at ALL! You are getting the opportunity to live my dream!
I always loved working - until I had children. I had a lot of time off when they were little - but now I actually make significantly more than FH. He makes a decent salary - but we can NOT afford to live on LI and have the things we want if both of us aren't working.
The fact that you can do this is GREAT! ENJOY IT!
ETA: What does your FH do for a living... maybe he can get my FH a job?

Re: Temporarily Retired
Doing what makes you happy does not make you a horrible person. You discussed it w/ your FH and since he's in agreement you're all set. Plus you think your lucky stars that you found someone that is financially stable enough to support your decision. CONGRATS!!!
I'm sure a majority of women would love to be able to stay home to raise children.
My I add as an future aunt of 4 children. Staying home to raise kids is a job in and of itself!

Lukcy girl! I think it is great to want to raise your children when you have them! If you feel like such a mooch (which your not! Again as everyone has said you are LUCKY) then you can always get a part time, stress free job somewhere until the time comes that you have your children. What does your FH do? I need to tell FH to get into that industry!
