Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

Hi everyone-

If you shop at Shoprite or Shop and Stop, you really owe it to yourself to check out Teri's list. Both of these stores double coupons, and it's a way save TONS of money on your groceries. She compares present sales to older sales, works with the sale cycle, etc., but you can save 50-60% easily. You have to buy the paper and clip coupons, but then you just print out this list and take it to the store with your coupons, buy the things on the list and check out. I've been doing this for a while and it really works - Kelloggs cereal for $1 a box, Name brand deoderant for 50 cents, toothpaste for free! My grocery bills are typically 60-70% off retail.

Sorry if I sound like I'm gushing, but I am! You can say that I refered you if you want - [email protected].

I'm not a vendor or trying to make money, I just wanted to share this awesome thing!

Me too, I'm confused...?

It seems to be that the only way it works is if you stockpile. I don't have the room

Besides, they don't really put meat or chicken or potatoes or veggies on sale w/ coupons and that's pretty much all FH eats. He's not into pasta or salads or junk food.

But I might try it out for one month just to see what it is like.

Thanks!

I looked breifly and it seems that Teri stockpiles all this stuff as it goes on sale & with coupons and then resells. Is that how it works?

Can you give us more info? I would love to cut our grocery bill.

Re: Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

It's pretty much explained if you go to the website, www.terislist.com but here's my best attempt:

Yes, it works best if you stockpile. What you do is get the Sunday paper, cut and file the coupons, get the list when it comes out (Tuesday) and go to the store with your list and your coupons (Tuesday - Sat.) Buy the things on the list that are in blue italics and bold green- those are the things that are either priced extremely well (blue) or are free (green). If the list says use a coupon, you do. There are also sales that are good deals, not the best (black). Those you buy if you need them.

So for instance, last week at Shop & Stop:

(blue) Kellogg's Cereal (Corn Flakes 18-oz., Raisin Bran 15-oz., or Rice Krispies 10-oz.)
Buy 2
regular price - 3.19 ea.
Sale price -1.49 ea.
coupon -1.00/2 =
.99 ea.

(blue) Kellogg's Cereals (Smart Start 17.5-oz., Crispix 12-oz., Special K with Berries 12-oz., Special K Vanilla Almond 14-oz. or Frosted Mini-Wheats 20.4-oz. pkg.)
Buy 2
regular price= 3.99 ea.
sale price=2.50 ea.
coupon=1.00/2 =
2.00 ea.

(blue) Quaker Bag Cereal (Frosted Shredded Wheat, Honey Graham, Sweet Puffs or Honey Nut Oats)
13 to 18-oz. bag
Buy 2
reg price: 2.19 ea.
Buy 1 Get 1 Free
1.10 ea.

(black) POPPYCOCK JUST THE NUTS! (Mixed Nuts or Cashews)
9-oz. pkg. reg price:4.99
sale:3.99
coupon.50
total:2.99

(blue) M&M's Holiday Candies (Plain and Peanut)
11 to 14-oz. bag
reg price: 3.29
sale: 1.99
coupon: .55
total: .89

It takes a while (like 4 weeks) to get the coupons you need to do this properly, but Teri makes it really easy. She also tracks the stores for something she calls 'Phantom Sales', which is when there's a low price on something but it's not the lowest it's gonna be in that sale cycle.

So you're going to buy things you may not need that week, but will need eventually. You're buying things at a good price to stock your own supply. It's not massive stockpiling unless you want to do that (I once got 12 boxes of Kashi Go-Lean for .60 a box - it's normally $3.50 or so! I bought 12 newspapers that week!).

It changes the way you shop, definetely. But I think it's worth it, especially if you have a family.

Ok that makes more sense. But what are you paying her for?

nsgraham Posted:

Re: Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

Teri charges people for access to her list. It's $10 every 8 weeks, or $1.25 a week. I think it's worth it. I used to do this on my own and it's a pain trying figure out what's really low and all that.

Also, she tracks phantom sales - sales that aren't rockbottom, just low enough to get you to buy the thing. And sale cycles, something she explains on her site. And unadvertised sales.

Oh, and remember that Shop and Stop DOUBLES coupons up to .99 cents - that's key. The way I got my Kashi Go-Lean so cheap was that I had a .70 off coupon. The cereal was on sale for $1.99. So:

.70 x2 = $1.40.
$1.99 - $1.40 = .59 cents.

You're paying her to track it all and make it easier on you. She's been doing this on the west coast for years.

this is kinda funny cause I'm answering your questions before I read them!

LOL...

Thanks for your help!!

I must have been in a fog when I checked out her site earlier - I thought she bought tons of stuff and was selling the stuff basically out of her garage...LOLOL

I'll re-read it

This sounds like EXACTLY what I do (well not ALL of it) so can I call myself annaslist?

I also stockpile (got the habit from my mom ) and I buy TONS of stuff on major sales, PLUS coupons on top.
The toothpaste free made me laugh because we have so much toothpaste and so many toothbrushes (ALL brand name) that Ive gotten for 50cents or free. and when I get home, I have to go item by item and show off to my hubby, the prices I got everything at, AND OF COURSE what the regular price was.. I also get expensive shampoos for $1 a bottle. I got Cheerios for 50cents a box (They were on sale for 2/$3 and I had a $1.00 coupon doubled (StopnShop also doubles $1.00 by the way! ) Oh, and you can use those $5 OFF OF $50 purchase - type coupons, you can use them at any of the stores, you can use King Kullens coupon at S&S or Waldbaums, etc... I have everything from diapers, to pasta, to cake mixes, to cleaning products, ALL brand name, all at ridiculously low prices.

I'll check out that website, but I can use that $1.25 for a bags worth of groceries!

thanks for the info, and for listening to me babble

Anna-

That's great! If you go to www.fatwallet.com you'll find tons of people on the grocery coupon forum talking about this all the time.

My Shop and Stop only doubles up to .99 cents.

I used to do this on my own as well - the list only showed up on the east coast last week or so. But it was always such a hassle for me, trying to get the circular and them trying to remember what coupons I had when and all that. Also if the price I had now was the lowest the price was gonna get. I envied the west coast people who had terislist - I even brought her document 'The Grocery Game' for $9.95, which actually goes into much more detail about tracking phantom sales and sales cycles and such.

I also use Rite Aid's single check rebates.

But I still used to get great deals. I bought a freezer to keep all the frozen things - meat and dinners and stuff. And Ice Cream!

OMG, it's like a cult of stockpilers! My parents have been doing this forever. I don't think I've bought toilet paper, paper towels, or laundry detergent in years because of them. You should see them when Shop Rite had their Can Can sale...I would go visit them and walk out with a case of mushrooms or potatoes or other canned veggies for free because they paid so little for it.

I unfortunately don't have either of those supermarkets close enough to make it worth it for me, but I'm trying to get into coupons. Unfortunately, they don't give out coupons for fruits and veggies and fish and stuff like that - all the stuff that I spend the most money on (produce is damn expensive!).

Re: Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

jann youre right certain things there are never coupons for and they are so darn expensive! (meats, fruits and veggieS)

I was told that BEST YET SUPERMARKET has great prices on fruits and veggies. is this true?

When I go to Queens, I DROOL at the prices!
79cents a pound for tomatoes!! HERE if they are 1.99/lb its a good deal. I also try to do a little grocery shopping when Im in Queens. I get these MOUTH WATERING mushrooms in Middle Village, for $1.29 or so a pack, well here (Suffolk) that same pack would be $3 at the least.

The only time I really see meat on sale is during the summer/BBQ season. Then you can get anything grillable at 2 for 1 prices.

I found that stop n shop has the best prices for meat I am just not too crazy about the one near me.

Re: Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

In MA my SIL can TRIPLE coupons up to .99cents!! So I bring my coupons up there and shop for canned stuff and other non-pershiable items. The store practically pays her to shop there.

I love to see my overall savings when I food shop. I never pay full price for toothpaste or any of those type items. Wait for a sale, double the coupon and it is nearly free.

I find my local butcher shop has better meat and prices then any of the chain grocery places.

Re: Terislist.com is now in the northeast - SAVE ON GROCERIES!

Not only are Best Yet's prices more competitive but the quality of their produce is terrific. I've only been once because it's not that close to me but I'll definitely go back at some point.

Something I started doing a few months ago: My mom and I switch coupon flyers from Newsday when we're done cutting them out for ourselves. This way we each get doubles of every coupon we use that the other doesn't need. Waldbaums will give you face value for the second coupon after the first one doubles. For example I got Nutella for free: It was 2.49 but I had my coupon (-2.00) and my mom's coupon (-.49-you can't get back money, at least not at Waldbaums.) This works best if you and the person you switch with don't buy a lot of the same stuff.
