I will admit i did think about this and was nervous. This has been the only time i have gotten freaked out and i try not to let it bother me. I am going to Itlay in October and i am glad i am not using any American or British airline!

The travelling did cross my mind.
My grandma calls us from Barbados every weekend and said that there is a high influx of arabic people into the island ...which honestly is a concern considering the islands stance and relationship with the US.

I dont think it matters which Airline or anything like that. Its about the security that they employ and how well people do their job.

Re: Terror Alert

I had wedding insurance...what a waste of money that was!!!

I had a permit to take photos at a park. We couldn't get in because there was a terror threat and the city police would not let us enter...

So, we had to find another park. We WASTED an entire HOUR on the day of the wedding with the park drama.

and, we're not getting a dime from the insurance company...we just had to deal with the inconvenience...

That sucks! but it sounds like it all worked out in the end! that's all you can really hope for.

I have to say that I am pretty nervous with my wedding only 25 days away and this terror alert so high. I would be nervous regardless of the wedding because of all that is going on overseas . Our country is looking at some hard times ahead. i just pray nothing happens

Re: Terror Alert

Would an insurance company issue a policy with a terror related cause? And if there are new threats, I'd think it would be harder if not impossible to get coverage for that- it's like a 'pre-existing condition' .

That said, I am worried a little. Not that my wedding will be directly impacted, but in general.

You kind of just have to have faith that the people who are in charge of taking care of this stuff will do their jobs. It's a scary world, but you have to move on with your life. Having insurance won't be any consolation if there really IS an attack anyway, at least that's how I feel. The media likes to scare us into paying attention to them, just remember that, too.

I have thought about the insurance b/c my fi is a city cop, but he doesn't think we need it. I am just afraid that something will happen that will cause him not to get the day off.

As for being afraid, I will admit that these terror alerts do make me a bit nervous if for no other reason than they serve as a reminder for what's happened and the type of world we live in.

Unfortunitly (it is sad to say)it is the world we live in .
Try to find out about the insurance if it makes you feel any better.

I am a bit concerned because my wedding is at the end of this month and with the democratic convention being so close by but i cant dwell. I have to many things to worry about and for me, personally, I will not stress myself out on terrorism.

Ok, first of all, I refuse to buy into the culturre of fear they're trying to sell. Yes, it's orange alert, but we were fine for all of those years without the stupid color codings being broadcast every day. That having been said, it's a little disconcerting since FH is starting his job tomorrow in the financial industry.

Also, having a big influx of arabic people is not any indication of danger. Listen to some cool music, eat some awesome middle easter food and smoke a little shisha....do a little dance, make a little love, etc...

There's never any need to feel that ebcause of the color of one's skin or his country of origina he or she is more or less likely to be a terrorist., Tim McVeigh was just like any other corn fed white boy from the midwest.

If anytnig, with the DC this month, the security will be stepped-up, so you should feel safer! security will be tight.

we have to look at positives in this mess!

I care about none of this.

I refuse to live my life as if nothing is wrong one moment then worry the next. Be consciencous of your surrounding at all times, be safe and realize there's very little you can do if you are an innocent bystander. THAT I am VERY sure of!

I could die tomorrow in a stupid car accident that has nothing to do with the terror alert. I could die tonight while I'm asleep because my heart stops. I can't live my life constantly thinking what if.

I live each moment to the best of my ability. That's all I can ask for.

RNC is going to hopefully let me work from Melville which will be cool. Otherwise I'll come into work, no biggie. Does make you wonder though, if this is such a big deal, can you imagine the Olympics in NY??

How many terror alerts have there been in the last three years? We're no more in danger now than prior to 9/11/01. Live life.

Re: Terror Alert

Marymoon, I definitely dont think that the country anyone comes from is indicative of terrorism. But being Barbadian I can say for one that its a small island who is not exceptionally culturally diverse and when you notice a change such as what has been taking place..you just keep an eye open. Not placing blame but becoming more heightened.
The Bajan government has noticed that since the Un meeting with Bush presuring countries to give support and some of them refusing..Barbados included...they have noticed that the number of arabic 'immigrants' have increased. The national newspaper is called..'the Nation' and this is a concern that was voiced from many a citizen. Kind of the same thing the US did when SARS was a threat from CHINA..we curtailed the number of chinese immigrants coming into the country..Its a reality of what our government does.

And I do agree with you about McVeigh..my post on the NWR board said just that..some of the terrorists are our own or are funded by

I have seen the ugly side upclose. I remember being in bootcamp and they showed us movies about war and terrorism and then the AF sent me to Korea where some of the people HATED Military. One night I was awoken and had to report with my M16 at the front gates because students were throwing cocktails at the gates..trying to intimidate us. Luckily no shots were fired but I was ready to retaliate if need be..When the weekend came would you know that my friends and I went out those same gates and had drinks and dinner as if nothing had happended. Yes the threat was there but we were not going to be intimidated. Thats the same atitude I have towards terrorism.

If the walls are to come crashing down..so it shall be..My only wish is that I am close to my daughter and husband .

I am scared because the company I work for is on the cover of the news paper as being a target.

I never believe people when they say they are not worried. It's impossible not to worry. Or maybe they are just so far from it that it doesn't affect them. I don't know. But I think about it every day. I guess that the side effect of looking out of your window and watching people jumping out of their windows and hitting the ground in a loud bang.

oops, sorry, I'm being morbid.

It's scary, but here I am today.... Sitting 1/2 a block from the NYSE.

I would NOT change my plans to travel abroad for my honeymoon. We are traveling thru the South Pacific Asia and then on to Europe...... NO ONE is going to deter that!
