Terror Alert

Re: Terror Alert

Please try to remain calm...this is exactly what they want for you to feel (and by 'they' I don't mean terrorists, I mean our government.) Call me a complete radical liberal, but I think the Bush administration blows any terror threat completely out of proportion to keep us all scared, then feel 'protected' when we see all the precautions that are being taken, and then vote for Bush in November.

The media feeds the frenzy too, and are getting awesome ratings and moolah today by covering the 'story' over and over again.

I am not trying to minimize the serious topic at hand, I was deeply affected by 9/11. But I just think it is kind of ridiculous at this point to keep 'raising the colors' to freek everyone out, even if there is a threat at hand. What are we supposed to do about it?! Be 'on alert'? NY'ers are always on alert since 9/11...

Just my Two cents on the subject. I think remaining calm is the best thing that can be done at this point. Easier said than done, I know.

I'm with Xelindrya. I'm not worried one bit. I'm not buying into it -- if anything I'm more worried about WHY they are TRYING to worry us so much To keep us under control? Keep our attention on other things?

Whatever the case may be, I firmly believe that *if* something were to happen again, it would happen the way it did on 9/11 -- without warning. We will NOT know it is coming and it will NOT be where we expect. So maybe that's what this is... a preemptive measure, a way to shout out to the terrorists and say 'Hey, look!! Our security is tighter than ever over here because of the convention so don't even think about it!' I'm not worried at all and even if I was, wedding insurance would not make me feel any better because it's not going to do anything in the case of terrorism interfering with the wedding.

With travelling I might be concerned depending on where I would be going. For our HM we are going to Tahiti... again, not worried.

And if they said nothing, then people would be complaining about that too. The government cannot win no matter what they do.

Personally, I don't care about the color changes because no matter what color the alert level is at I am always aware of the reality of it. I am worried about when IT is going to happen, because I know deep down inside that it will happen again. I just don't like not knowing the when or where. I do appreciate the specific warnings because it does let you know what the deal is. I mean, think about it, why would they try to make us worry more. Whenever the alerts go up, the economy goes down. So unless something credible appears, its stupid to make people nervous because it makes the entire country worse off.

I work in the financial district. The only thing we can do is continue our daily business. There's no way of knowing what will happen and where it will happen.

FYI, NYC has been on orange alert since 9/11/01 so the color change doesn't really matter, anyway.

I am trying my hardest not to worry, but everywhere you turn there it is. I refuse to live my life in fear because of terrorists, because if you do they win. I try to just go about my day as normal as possible, because like some of you ladies have said since 9/11 we have been on pretty high alert, so it is not that big a change. I don't want to change my wedding plans, or any aspect of my life for that matter, to accomodate terrorism. i am doing my best to not let these new threats get to me...but at the same time my fh works in the city, and worked on the 79th floor of 2 world trade and the very thought of reliving that again just makes me sick to my stomach!

My fiance works in the Prudential Financial building in Newark. I am extremely nervous and would love it if he could quit and get a job in Long Island. I can't stop thinking about it.
He went to work today and said that security is def. enhanced. Everyone now has to wear identity badges and the CEO will be having a meeting with them shortly.

I can't believe this. I feel this terrorism stuff is never going to go away. He feels he needs to stay there to help save money for our wedding and life together. I said what's the point if anything happens? No money in the world is as important as having him safe.

How do we get through this difficult time?

I am not going to say I am not nervous, but to tell you the truth I refuse to live my life around it. They want us not to have the freedom that we cherish, they want us to live in fear and I refuse to do that. I pray everyday nothing happens and my family will be safe but then I live my life.

I work right on top of Penn Stations - 1 Penn Plaza and will be going to Jersey financial building right now.. Honestly I am a little scared - or should I say cautios - but what you gonna do? Gotta live your life! And, hope nothing happens! We live in sucky times, and hopefully, there is a lot going on with the CIA that we don't know about, and they are all on top of everything, and the warnings, are just that, warnings!

We just have to pray all will be well!!!!

Re: Terror Alert

I really would not worry. We've been through these threats before. I'm not trying to make this a political issue because I think there is a good chance 9/11 would have happened regardless of who was in office. I do believe that George W is stepping up the alerts though for political reasons. Lots of people don't like George W but are scared to change Presidents in times of war. Just my two cents. I'm not trying to start a political argument but my point is that there probably is no good reason to alter your plans.

Also - my guess is that wedding insurance would not cover acts of terrorism. Check that out before you buy it.
