thank you card etiquette question?

soooooo... if a guest attended the wedding and did not give a gift, do i still give them a thank you card? and if they do, what do you actually say on the card?

(mind you, this particular guest is local - did not have to travel from a far to attend our wedding.)

Yes, still send one. Say 'Thanks for coming out and celebrating with us.'

Yes, you are supposed to send a thank you card. they still came and celebrated with you.

'Thank you for coming to share in our special day! Hope you had a blast!'

ditto....everyone gets a thank you, even if you just say something like 'thanks so much for sharing in our special day!'. ppl technically have a yr to send a gift so maybe they willl send one lol

It would be really hard for me to hold my tongue. I think you should send them a bill in the thank you card.

People really don't give gifts??? I almost fainted when I read that! Any chance their envelope got lost or something?

LOL. I definitely didn't have fun writing that thank you card. I thanked them at my wedding, and since they didn't give a gift (for 2 attendees) shouldn't that be enough?

A simple 'Thank you for coming & sharing our day!'

Someone did that at my son's christening.. I'm not the type to look for the gift but at least I want a card!! But of course the gift would be wonderful!!! lol

Technically, you do not have to. Thank you notes are for people who provided you with a gift, or a service around that day. But it wouldn't be wrong to send a thank you if you wanted.

I disagree. You don't invite people to a wedding because you WANT something- whether it's a gift or a service. You invite them because you want them there to celebrate with.

oh man that's terrible!

maybe he's just being a millionaire and will wait a year to send you a gift? technically he has a year to send something. as bad as it sounds, rich people sometimes wait to make sure that the couple 'works out' before they invest money in them.

Just say 'Thanks so much for being a part of our special day' or something to that effect.

We have about 5 NGs as well....and we were equally shocked. However as previously stated, it is perfectly acceptable to send a gift within a year. But still, I just don't get it. I had the same question regarding TYs so THANKS for starting this post!!

What about the people you didn't want there but you had to invite anyway....and they gave no gift?

I really thought we would have no non-gifters, but I was very shocked by who no gifted us:

the best man
two of DH's GM/long time college friends
DH's cousin, wife, and two kids!!!
DH's former co-worker/GM

The one I'm most mad at is the GM/co-worker - not only did he not give a gift, he never returned his RSVP card, told DH that he AND his wife would DEFINITELY be there, shows up on wedding day solo with some lame excuse that she started a new job. On top of that, this same GM RSVPed Yes for two people for the Rehearsal Dinner and NONE of them showed - no excuse, no call, nothing.

This guy is not getting a thank you at all.

definitely still send a thank you card. Everyone should get a thank you card that attended your wedding and those that didn't attend but sent a gift.

For your situation I would just write 'We wanted to thank you so much for attending our wedding and sharing in our special day' - or something along those lines.
