Thank you cards....but for what occassion???

I'm confused about some gifts I received as to whether they are shower gifts or wedding gifts. The first one...I received a china place setting prior to my shower from someone who hadn't received her wedding invitation yet (long story) but had received the shower invite. I assumed this was a shower gift but then she showed up to the shower with another gift. Second situation... someone at the shower gave me beautiful crystal glasses and then a day later I received in the mail a china place setting from her also. I looked at the order date and she had placed the order before the shower. I need to send thank you cards for the shower but don't know if I opened those presents too early. What if I just say thank you for the actually shower gift and don't mention the china...they may think I didn't get it

Re: Thank you cards....but for what occassion???

do you have any of the card?

If it is signed just from the woman it is definitely for the shower...

if both names are on it it could be either...could you have mom or FMIL (whichever side it is) ask?

Re: Thank you cards....but for what occassion???

Good idea to check the card... One had both husband and wife and the other was just from the woman. This gives me a little more to work with in figuring it out. Unfortunately there is no 'go between' to feel the situation out. These are co-workers and there isn't anyone I would feel comfortable enough have ask them. Thanks for the advice. Much needed and appreciated.

Re: Thank you cards....but for what occassion???

The same thing is happening to me right now!
My shower is this Sunday and we have already received two gifts in the mail. One is from his Aunt & Uncle, it could be a shower gift since it is this weekend but the value is over $200! That makes it fall into the wedding gift category in my opinion.
Their son & dil sent a gift at the same time, only $40 so I guess that's a shower gift.
I could be wrong. Makes me crazy!
I am going to send a thank you card saying thank you for the lovely gift, not saying for what occassion.

Re: Thank you cards....but for what occassion???

I would be totally confused. People should send wedding gifts after getting their invite, but before the wedding. Shower gifts should not be sent to your home, since most showers are a 'surprise'. Have your Mom or FMIL ask them.
