Thank you's...
Is it proper to write: 'I'm sorry you were unable to attend my...' when sending out thank you's to someone who sent a gift but was unable to attend?

Is it someone close? For a family member (or friend) I would be less formal, and say something like I really wish you had been able to make it. That wording seems appropriate for a business associate or something like that (parent co-worker, etc.)
I think no matter what you write they will appreciate the 'thank you'... I like to make things are personal as possible...
