Do you think people would be upset if they weren't invited to both the ceremony and reception?

Personally, absolutely. I think the reason you go to a wedding reception is to celebrate a wedding... if I weren't considered good enough or close enough to go to the actual wedding part, I wouldn't go to the reception. Just my opinion.

Thank you for your opinion.

I guess I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I am not the only person who has ever decided to have a destination wedding with a reception afterwards.

I'll keep your view in mind when deciding

Wait, aren't you already booked for Watermill? It says that under your avatar.

Yes...we are booked to have our reception at the Watermill. We haven't confirmed our ceremony plans yet.

who says you can't have you ceremony in nj and your reception in ny... where do most people live?

Most people live on Long Island. A couple are from out of town. This would be the first time my entire family went on vacation in probably 20 years. We would spend the weekend in Jersey and have the ceremony on the last day.

Truthfully, I agree wtih Angela. I think it seems a little odd to invite people to a reception and not the ceremony. They might feel like 'We are close enough to come to the party and bring a gift but not to see the ceremony?'

Why arent you just having the ceremony and reception in NJ? Im not sure I understand.

Re: What do you think?

We thought it would be easier to have the reception back home where most of our guests live. By doing everything in Jersey, our guests would have to pay money for hotels and transportation.

We know many people who have had a destination wedding with a reception back home afterwards. A part of me feels like we should get married further away so it's not an issue. Then, maybe it would be more like a 'real' destination.

I understand what you mean now...I thikn if this is how you want to do it, then go for it! It's your wedding and it should be done the way you want it to be done! What if you invite everyone and let them decide for themselves?

I agree about inviting everyone to the ceremony. Then at least they'll decide not to go themselves.... not you telling them they can't. How far away is it in Jersey? You can't do a morning ceremony and evening wedding? Or ceremong on Saturday and reception on Sunday? That way people can drive to Jersey and back to LI for the reception.

Re: What do you think?

The morning ceremony would allow enough time for a brunch afterwards, picture taking and travel time.

The night before, we plan on having our rehearsal dinner on the beach with a bonfire.

I like your idea of inviting everyone and letting them decide. I just have to make sure we could afford paying for everyone.

you dont have to invite everyone who comes to the ceremony to go to the brunch... for all your guest know you're busy taking pictures after the ceremony.
