Thanks for the advice !

OK, so I made an appointment w. the GYN for today about a month ago. My appointment is today at 3:30 pm. When I called to confirm, I asked what is the doctors name again? she said her name is ___blank___. So I said, ok so I will mee twith Dr. __blank___
THEN the secretary says, 'actually she is not a doctor she is a nurse practitioner - she went to school- she's trained'

Dilemma: W T F ??? I feel I should have been informed of this when I first scheduled. I am not sure how comfortable I feel about this idea. I already took off from work, and if I dont go today, I wont be able to go until September.

Has anyone had an experience with this? I honestly have never heard of that. HELP!

edited: Thanks for sharing your experiences. I feel so much better about going today.

Wow. I have never heard of this. Do what you feel comfortable in doing. Good luck!

I've gone to the nurse practitioner. They can prescribe meds and do all the typical ob/gyn exams that the doctor would do. Don't worry about it.

It's never happened to me, but I've heard of it.

If you're just going for a check up, I think it's probably fine. If you're going for a specific issue, I'd definitely ask for a real doctor

If you're feeling really uncomfortable about it, though, I'd definitely push for a doctor. That is the WORST thing to be uncomfortable about

I usually go to the nurse practioner. unless you have some medical condition, they actually probably do more exams than the dr. themselves.

Don't worry, it shouldn't be a problem

I've seen the nurse practitioner many times at the obgyn, they are just as knowledge, the one they have at my office is great, I like her just as much as the dr. They can do everything a dr can.

I prefer nurse practitioners and Physicians assistants. They spend more time with you and are more easily approachable in my opinion.

I think it's weird they didn't tell you when you made the apt. but it should be fine. Actually, I've found that NP's and PA's generally have more time for you and better bedside manner.
