we do it slightly different in md, but i'll end up having 3 probably. I plan on having one just for my side and only inviting fmil from fh's side. and I'll probably even tell her not to worry about coming down. you could have one in nj too.

First of all, they don't go out of the way for this type of event?

And frankly, I can't tell you not to worry about it, because I'm worried about the same thing.

I've moved a lot, and my friends live all over the country. I have only a few (2) friends that I still keep in touch with from my home town, and I've told my mom NOT to ask anyone to travel from out of state for a shower. I feel bad enough they have to come so far for the wedding.

So MY shower's going to be like a meeting of Post-Menopausal Friends of Mom, family, and those 2 friends from home.

Sparse.

Have you considered asking FILs to move it a little closer to Brooklyn?? Maybe compromise and do it in Nassau...I think if you explained to them or had FH explain how you feel and your concerns they will totally understand.

I don't know the details, but for a family that won't go down the block if it's not convenient for them, it's pretty far lol My own aunt didn't make the last two b-day parties for her grandchildren! She wouldn't hesitate to RSVP no for her niece's shower That's just the type of people in my family - that side wasn't raised with too many family values. I know the most important people will be there and I'll be grateful to have them there... I don't know what I'm worried about.

WHOA! Just saw this...if your family will not make an effort to come then why not bump up your friend list knowing your family won't show. That is so sad....Im sorry!

Mine will be on li and alot of my fh family live in brooklyn and NJ and SI and they are fine with it. Dont stress.... the people who love u will be there. Who cares about the others.
