That 'wow!' moment...

That 'wow!' moment...

I've looked at 6 reception locations so far and I've found something wrong with all of them. I keep telling myself that when I see the right place I'm going to know it. Is that what happened to you ladies who've booked? I'm going to South Carolina for a week (leaving tomorrow), and I wanted to book a place by the end of the month. What if nothing in my budget (preferably around $100 p/p) 'wows' me? Do I pick the one I liked the best, even though it didn't thrill me? Am I being a bridezilla? I just want my day to be fabulous. I know once it's actually here, It's not going to matter how great the view was, or how big the dance floor is, but these things are important to me now. I don't really want to budge on the time of year (I really want early fall- late Sept to early October) and I want a place that has one wedding at a time, but that I'm willing to budge on. I'm focusing on waterfront or country club venues and still have 3 more to look at. I keep going to places and saying 'I know this is going to be it. I'm going to have that 'wow' moment.' Then I'm slightly dissapointed that I didn't. Am I being unreasonable? Sorry for the long rant. Planning a wedding is alot harder than I thought....

i would keep your options open....if there is a place you fall in love with but isnt in your price range maybe you can change the time of year or even the day of the week to make it more affordable......good luck!

I looked at about 15 halls or so before I had the 'wow' moment. We spent an entire week off looking at almost 5 halls per day. We didn't find our hall until the very last day!! Keep looking - you'll find it!!

I agree with everyone, you will have that moment and I wouldn't give yourself a time limit to find 'THE place'. That will just add more stress for you. Just keep looking, you'll find it!

I had that 'wow' moment with our hall, but DH didn't at first. He wanted to keep looking around since we only looked at 2 other halls, but after the food tasting we were sold! We knew we wouldn't find another deal as good as that and be able to have our wedding on the water at such a beautiful place... plus we got SO much for our money. We ended up having the wedding of our dreams. Honestly, if you really like a place then consider it... think about it for a week or two and maybe see a few more places. Sometimes things just need to grow on you... don't make yourself crazy, but definitely keep looking if you're not 100% satisfied.

As for watefront venues... did you check out Chateau La Mer??

Fortunately for me we only visited 2 places, and I didn't need to look any further. I'm sure you'll know, or perhaps if you don't, maybe you can weigh the pro's and con's of the place you like best. Not every hall will make you happy, it's what you make of it. When everything is put together, you'll question yourself as to why you even second guessed the hall to begin with. Good Luck

I definitely had that 'wow' moment when FH & I walked into Hamlet Wind Watch (we are going tomorrow am to book it)

It was the first hall we looked and when I walked out I knew that was the place I wanted to get married at.
We went to see 2 other halls and both were nice but I did not get that 'wow' moment.

You should go see the Hamlet - one wedding at a time...reasonable $$ ..... overlooking a beautiful golf course. FM if you want.

Good Luck and don't worry you will find your perfect hall to have your wedding!

To tell you the truth I never had that 'wow' moment with my reception hall. I looked at 17 reception halls, so don't worry you still have plenty to go to catch up to me. I first wanted the water and looked all over, westchester, LI, CT, but the one place I really liked my FH and dad didn't like and to be honest, the 2nd time looking at it, I wasn't that happy with it either. The hall that I finally booked is not on the water (which is a bit disappointing to me) but I will be taking pictures by the water in between the church and reception. My place is very pretty though, and I think I will be very happy with the service and food when the time comes. Keep your mind open and something will make you happy.

with my hall I was trying to avoid having it there because it is in my neighborhood and I have been there for different occassions (FH hasnt) so we saved it for last but every other hall i went to I compared to Russos and I wasnt really impressed - thats how I knew it was the place, i got my WOW

I did look at CLM. It was nice, but I have lived less than a mile away all my life, I kinda wanted to go somewhere new, and a bit further away. I did LOVE your wedding pictures though CaMacho, that's why I agreed to check it out in the first place. I haven't totally ruled it out, though.

Re: That 'wow!' moment...

Actually, I saw Hamlet Willow Creek last night. I thought it was really pretty, but I didn't like that the cocktail hour is in the lobby. It is at the top of my list at the moment though. I went to a christmas party at the Hamlet Wind Watch, and I'm going to go look at it again. I just got back from looking at Smithtown Landing, and although the golf course is goregeous, I didn't really like the buildings...They are a little old for my taste. However, I must rave about the girl that helped me. I didn't even have an appointment (I went for a bridal show that was actually last night--duh. Like there would be a bridal show on a Friday!) and Shannon was super nice. I could've talked to her for hours. And, the price is really low...but I couldn't see myself there. Thanks for all the suggestions girls. Keep em coming.

Re: That 'wow!' moment...

when you find your place you are definetly going to be 'wow' about it....I looked at 10 places before I made up my mind on the hall that I am going with, all the places that I seen I found something about it that I didnt like....just like you. But once I seen Sandcastel I was able to see myself there getting married. After seeing this place every other place we looked at after I just was not intrested in seeing, I had my mind set on the Sandcastle. I got really lucky and went back to the Sandcastle when they were having a showcase and I got an awesome price pp, I was shocked, because like you, I had a certain price that I didnt want to go over pp, and they actually gave me it for the price that I had in my head.....I was sooo happy!

Although its getting close - I would still wait for that wow!! moment. That is what we did when we went to Fox Hollow. There is nothing better than feeling excited about your special day - that will include your reception. Hang on girl!! Things will work out.

It took us 20 halls to get the FULL wow affect and it was amazing. The Old Field Club was perfect. I didn't want to settle for some place that wasn't fully us-so I can't blame you. Try to hold out and look a little more-you may find what you are looking for.
