Thatched Cottage

We looked at Thatched Cottage and fell in love with it for our August 2011 wedding. However, we just spoke to someone who attended a wedding there last August and said that the smell from the dumpster near the outdoor cocktail hour was overwhelming. Also he said the food was mediocre. This has us scared to choose TC even though we had such a great impression from our visit. Anyone who's been to or had a wedding there, is this accurate?

Re: Thatched Cottage

Hi! First off- Congratulations!

Secondly, I have never been to a wedding or any event at Thatched Cottage myself but I have heard such wonderful things about it. FH and I fell in love with the place too and we booked right on the spot. We are getting married there next May. We have been there twice so far since booking and we have never smelt a dumpster. We also went for a food tasting and it was excellent. Such wonderful service too.

If you do a search for Thatched Cottage you can see alot of Bride's Reviews and there is also a Thatched Cottage Thread.

Good luck and Congrats again!

Re: Thatched Cottage

I had my wedding there in november and I STILL get rave reviews about the food! I thought the food was fab.. but you need to remember food is a matter of taste so there is ALWAYS going to be someone that is not happy with something or other.

As for the dumpster, I did do a walk through when I made a payment on a hot summer day there and I don't remember there being a smell. I was very concerned with the smell of the water actually, with high and low tide, but was told they actually let the water drain during the week to cut down on the algae and what not to reduce smell/keep the water clean and then let it fill again by the weekend.

Hope this helps a little!

Re: Thatched Cottage

I have been there several times and have never smelled anything bad. As for the food, I had my food tasting and it was delish and everyone that has done there for a wedding has loved it.

The only negative thing I heard was from someone who worked there and she said that in March the low tide could sometimes smell bad...but that is it. You always take a risk of low tide when you have your wedding on the water.
