I actually agree with most of what was said...but that's just my opinion.

Like special jewelry, how about you can't borrow anything from anyone and have no choice but to buy your own pieces? No one i know has any pieces i can borrow so i'm stuck buying my own jewelry.

FH and I are being extremely 'practical' as far as our wedding goes but are also being reasonable about how special and important the day is to us. That article seems to be making a mockery of so much that couples love about their own weddings. I'm surprised they didn't just say to ditch it all and get married at city hall then buy your friends and family hot dogs from the cart outside!
There's gotta be a reasonable medium between $200 bouquets for BMs and having them carry a single tulip you picked out of your parents' yard on the way to church.
It's funny how people write articles without thinking about what reasonable planning is!
Thanks for sharing -- it actually helped remind me just how important our wedding day is to me.

I agree with most of it.... buttttt the suggestions on how to save in each area, yeah right.... unless you are from a really rural area where some things are done asss backwards... def cannot apply any suggestions to a LI wedding... i mean, i've cut corners here n there but im not going to set up an ipod as my source of music... but the informal cocktail type reception sounds awesome!

Exactly thats how i feel it's basically telling you to do everything very very cheaply. In no way am i a millionaire or anything but i know where to compromise but this article saying to borrow all your jewelry and have a cake from the supermarket as your wedding cake is a bit too much.

I agree and I don't agree. I'm probably one of the most frugral brides on here, and I did skimp on a lot of the areas, non-floral cps, my dress is moderately priced, my jewelry is half borrowed, dj instead of band. But I did splurge on photo video, STDs, and some little extras, which I kind of wish I didn't now that I had to take a 15% paycut, but overall I still think we're in pretty good shape because of all the bargain hunting we did do.
I'm just so sad, because in my heart of hearts I don't think I can get my venetian masks anymore, and that makes me so upset because I wanted them so badly

I think it had some fair points but if you followed all of the advice I think you'd feel really jipped.

if your getting married in another state those are ideas are wonderful! i told my mother i didnt want to get favors and she almost fainted! haha we are dealing with people who are used to BIG FAT NY Weddings ... and the truth is if you skimp people notice. ... For example: my aunt was 'shocked and surprised' that i used clear labels to address our invites... since she paid $10 an invite for her daughters sweet 16 and got them callligraphered. I mean really ... you try to take little shortcuts thinking no one will notice BUT THEY DO! welcome to NY!!!

I felt this one to be the most ridiculous:
Photographers You can hire a budget photographer for under $1000, while more upscale ones charge between $3000 and $5000. And often, the packages include a fixed number of photos, where you have to pay more if you end up wanting more taken. A better alternative is tohire a friend who is really good with a camera (there are many great amateurs these days). Or call a local art school and hire a student photographer or go on CraigsList where you can often find more affordable prices.
Yeah because im going to have a student photographer take pictures of a wedding im spending 30grand on. sure thats going to happen

Honestly, the dress is ridiculous, like you really see yourself wearing that dress they featured. Even if you have to cut back, go to a sample sale, department stores or work with one of the vendors on Ebay. Or better yet just tell the vendors it's for a family reunion, engagement/rehearsal/anniversary dinner instead of a wedding if you're really looking to cut back the cost. I have not attempt this, I just read it from a Bargain Brides book so who knows? Maybe a daring and brave soul can pull it off, lol.
