The car ate my CDs!!!

The car ate my CDs!!!

This morning I put my 2 favorite CDs into the 6 disc changer in my car. About 1 minute into the first song off the favoritest of the favored CDs, the CD player starts making this whirring-grinding noise. whiiiiiiiiiir-grind-grind-whiiiiiiiiiiiiir-grind-grind So not cool. In a panic, I start ejecting CDs all wily-nily to rescue my precious babies. 4 CDs come out without a fight. One of the favored ones among them. The favoritest of the favored is still trapped in the CD player! Everytime I pressed 'eject' it would whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir-grind and then flash 'CD ERROR' like some digital fiend.

I have no idea what to do, or how to rescue my CDs. Can I dismantle the dashboard? Should I just punch a hold right through it?

that's terrible!
Which cd was it? Was it your secret favorite Cold Play cd?

I would have someone try to dismantle it - or bring it to the place where you got the car....

Can you change cds, still? I dont' mean take them out, but you know hit the button that makes them rotate? Maybe you have to move it around a liltte before you can eject it.

After that, have someone how knows how to install car steroes take it apart. I don't think it is gone forever.

Here's the thing... there are still 2 CDs in there and I can't do a blessed thing to them! I try to rotate, eject, load ANYTHING! All I get in response is whiiiiiiiiiir-grind 'CD ERROR'!!

What if I smacked the dash a few times?

Re: The car ate my CDs!!!

Okay so there's an update on the voracious CD player...

I told Mr Boots and was all 'your stupid car blah blah blah indignant cakes, holding my CDs hostage blah blah blah'. He decides to try and fix it.

To make a long and stupid story short... the CD player now has 7 of my CDs! That's right. The 6-disc player has 7 of my CDs. But it's pretending it doesn't have any!!! I hit the eject button, it claims there are no discs! I hit the load button and it's all MMMM MORE!!

I think the CD player has been replaced by a black hole!

P.S. Wendy, That Luscious Jackson CD is safely in it's jewel case on my shelf. 'Natural Ingredients' has been swallowed by the gaping maw.

BTW, the CD changer in my Jetta used to do the same thing all the time (hold them hostage, not devour more then it had spots for) and I'd leave it be for a few days and eventually, they would eject.

Re: The car ate my CDs!!!

on the way to work this morning, the car claimed I had only 3 CDs in there, but there were really like a dozen.

I managed to eject 1 of them, but when I tried to eject another it made a bunch of clicking sounds and the CD just vanished! It didn't eject, but the CD player is pretending it did!

Re: The car ate my CDs!!!

maybe you have to give it time.....the CD player, is obviously holding a grudge based on the music you have been feeding it.....and it's letting you know by torturing you slowly. Hopefully, it will give you another cd in a few days...and in a month or so, you should have all of them back!

Maybe now, you need to think about your cd choices a little more carefully, eh?

Is this a factory cd changer? Is this a newer car with a warranty?

My Explorer CD player does the same thing... I just shove crap in there until they pop out. Then I take the car back to Ford, and they give me a new cd player I'll never buy Ford again !

I suspect the car is Republican, because we didn't have this problem until Mr Boots played the New System of the Down CD.

Also, I have excellent taste in music, thank you very much!!

I have a Ford Focus!! It's probably a Ford thing! When you take it in, how long does it take to get it fixed?

And really, just stuffing it makes them all pop out??

Obviously, it's angry at the System of the Down!!!!
How could you do such a thing to a car?

Let me ask you this - does the cd door stay open when it's jammed? If so, I just prod the stuck cd with another cd, and it usually goes into a grinding cycle - where it will (sometimes) spit one out. Sometimes I do just have to leave it for a bit to allow the cd player to cool off.

According to Ford - the cd player gets 'hot'. They're geniuses.

It usually takes a few days for it to get fixed at Ford - but that's because, like I said - they're geniuses.

PS - my car has had 3 new transmissions within 15K miles

Ford - NEVER AGAIN!

Re: The car ate my CDs!!!

It's not a door, it's just a slot. And I hear the grinding, and the clicking, but nothing.

I have noticed that sometimes the CDs were really hot when I'd eject them...

I like the Focus, but Ford overall doesn't impress me. Their brakes aren't great and the trannies clunk.
