Re: The city
I am always in the city and I see tons of places where I get ideas and such from... I'm not sure exactly what you are looking to purchase at this time, but here are some places I walk past everyday for work and always get new ideas..
There are lots of stores near penn station where you can get bags, perfume, jewelry, and other BM type gifts basically. Just watch which ones are retail and which wholesale (wholesale for the most part you need a Tax ID form which is something for vendors i was told) You may also be able to get the Chinese fans or slippers / flip flops. I would suggest just walking around that area to see if anything catches your eye.
There are also lots of flower stores / florists (around 28th) where you can get vases and ideas for centerpieces if you want.
Also there are
the diamond district for rings.
economy candy .. if you need bulk candy
if you are doing DIY's and need stamps, the inkpad is where I went to. They have tons of wedding/love etc. themed ones.
Enjoy your trip!

Re: The city
Yea and that whole area (its like 35th st-probably like the 40's) is all fabric stores, and rhinestones to apply yourself, dress stores. Its a great shopping area and def good for ideas just be sure to bargain shop and talk them down because they also look to rip off easy targets that they think dont know any better. Otherwise its GREAT! Have fuN!

Re: The city
You should def try places in 30's and 40s. Visit the Wedding Cafe...on E 38th Street... its where Duet is based...but there are dozens of vendors inside this place...from photographers (not just Duet) to make-up, and limos, etc. They have alot of ideas and you can pick up a free copy of a bride magazine.

Re: The city
Try Canal Street & B'way, they have tons of vendors there. There's also this place that everyone is raving- Pearl River Mart. It's a cute place with tons of great finds for your wedding, home, etc. You'll def be able to find your favors there. For veils & tiaras, they have some vendors on Canal as well as the end of the block. If you don't see anything you like, then I would go with 34th Street 8th Ave, that whole block is the garment district. There are all kinds of fabrics, beads, Swarovski, & accessories. Have fun with your shopping!

I'm not an avid city goer, but I feel like when I do go, I always see interesting things in all those little novelty shops that pop up everywhere. Might not heard to peek in those!
