The Daily Mirror front page

Did anyone see this? This was the front page of the Daily Mirror, one of England's newspapers, the day after the election. Even though I voted for Kerry, I found this to be somewhat offensive.

usuk, maybe you can tell us how this newspaper is viewed in england? I don't know if it's more a tabloid or what. Thanks!

I don't - It's basically the way another COUNTRY views Americans........
Maybe if it were one of our own obnoxious tabloids it wouldn't be AS bad.....But even though I voted for Kerry ......Bush is my preisdent, I don't believe in bashing the President. -

You definitely hit the spot Marisa..Other countries definitely look at us..I mean look down on us.

I agree...It's one thing for those of us in the US to be unhappy about the election, but I hate to think of other countries looking at us so negatively, espcially a country with whom we have a good relationship.

what i found totally interesting (and scary) was while on our honeymoon in italy, the CNN news coverage that was available in our hotels was totally different then what we have here. what shocked me most was the same pundits and guests we see here said things that never would fly in the US...critical things about bush and the US (god forbid)...

tony blair had apologized and admitted that the intelligence pre invasion of iraq was wrong. i came back to the states and asked how much press that received here...people said, 'what'?

I agree that it is sad that other countries look down on us- but that is what happens when our president does the things he did.

Are the other countries supposed to pretend they love him? I don't get it.

They can't understand how Bush was reelected. Honestly, neither can I.

So that is why I think it is funny. But I don't think the fact that he was re elected is funny. Not at all.

True. But I was in England and France in March- There were anti-Bush signs and rallies EVERYWHERE. It was unbelievable, I saw Bush's face on signs and posters there more than you see his face here.

Check out the BBC News when you get a chance. It is on our television, forget what channel. They have a lot more coverage about what goes on in America then we do.
A couple of months ago I was watching it and they were covering in detail the trials of the American soldiers who tortured Iraqi prisoners. I didn't see mention of that anywhere.
And yes the rest of the world doesn't seem to understand how Bush was elected.

Tell me about it...people in other countries seem to know alot more about what goes on here then we do. When I have relatives visit from Ireland they wonder about our news because it is full of weather and traffic reports. They often say how much can the weather change in a half hour!

The Daily Mirror is akin to The National Enquirer and the old Star. I'm not all that concerned with whatever they put on their front page. Next week's could be 'Devil Woman Has Alien's Baby'.
