Absolutley nothing with rap. If there is any part of the song that has rap the DJ better switch songs before the rap part comes on....

I dont mind group dances...they're fun. i dont understand why so many people are against them...i know theyre super cheesy but all the drunk people have so much fun doing it. and everyone ALWAYS gets up for the cha cha slide.

im just not doin the chicken dance- i hate that stupid song. And piano man is almost on the do not play list.

so my friend is getting married nxt week and just had her final mtg with the dj today..
she advised that i take time and really setup a do not play list...bc even though she was working on this for the past 2 weeks, there were many songs she had not thought of that the dj brought up..

so let's start one (and i know everyones taste is different, but maybe this can give us ideas and you can edit to your liking)

- cha cha slide
- chicekn song
- any group song
- jlo
- ricki martin

I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANY OF THOSE SONG SI GAVE MY DJ ALIST JUST LIKE THAT WHEN WE FIRST WENT TO MEET HIM, IT REALLY IS AGOOD IDEA

I will be doing some dances but not all... but one song that HAS to be on my do not play list is 'can't help falling in love' by elvis.. which is a shame cuz i like it (it is also my parents wedding song). This is because FMIL flipped out at FH's brother's wedding recently because she did not want this song played and the dj played it (it was her's and FH's dad's wedding song as well... and they are now divorced). oh well.

Oh and At Last by Etta James. I know most people love it, but I can't stand that song.

OMG me too!! There will be no line dances. Which is apparently a very big deal to FH's family. they love them!

My mother says the same thing! I told her there's no chicken dance, macarena, conga line, electric slide, plastic leis, sunglasses, any of that stuff and she's fighting me on it telling me that people like that stuff and my answer was the same - it's not a sweet 16 it's a wedding.

Luckily my mom agrees with me. But my FIL think I am being a snob. Their words -- not mine! W/e! They can play the chicken dance at the next event they host!

Yup, I agree with everyone else. Any of those stupid dances where everyone knows the steps, I hate the conga line, and I'm having a band, so I'm sure there will be no rap, but you never know, so I'm going to mention it to them anyway.

This is a great post...
FH and I are against group dances. I already told the DJ. He made a good point...only in case of emergency and no one is dancing will he consult us. So I have maybe 2 that are tolerable on the list. otherwise...pretty much have the same list as above.

I totally agree with you. Group dances are fun and usually get everybody up and dancing! and again I do agree that the chicken dance is very outdated. But songs like Cotton eyed joe, and the cupid suffle are a blast just my opinion.

yeah i pretty much agree with the no group dances idea, but i dont think a band is as apt to do them anyway. i had my e-party yesterday (dj) and i crossed out all of the group dances except for a maybe on cha cha slide... and when the dance floor was waning a bit, they threw that on and everyone got back up again! and then stayed up for cotton eyed joe and some other new one, no idea. but it was fun anyway. :)

I also said no 70s but then i told the DJ in person i didnt' really care as long as people were dancing and they loved that 70s crap! so i can't complain, as long as people were dancing.

(except FH who decided that he'd rather chat with his friends all night than dance but what are you going to do... ) i danced, i had a great time with my friends :)
