the dollar dance?

has anyone else ever heard of this? a bunch of us are getting married at work and we constantly discuss planning and whatnot and the other day, someone mentioned the 'dollar dance' where all the guys drop like, anything between $1 - $20 into a bowl to dance with the bride for 20 seconds and the girls do to the same to dance with the groom. Now, I've been to a whole bunch of weddings, but i've never seen or heard of this!! i'm currently on the west coast and they said it's a west coast/midwest thing, but i was wondering if anyone else ever heard of it??? supposedly, people CLEAN UP this way

never heard of it. Now, this is purely JMO, so im sorry if I offend anyone who has/is doing this -- but I think its a little on the tacky side. Its like asking people for more money on top of a gift. And many people might feel obligated to give the $$ and participate.... i wouldnt do it. But again, thats JMO.

I am from PA and almost every wedding I have ever been to this is done. The bride and groom start dancing and guys and girls line up and give any amount of money (usually a dollar) then they take turns every so many seconds and cut in to dance with the bride or groom. I have seen it where when they give their money they get a shot of something (Pucker for the ladies whiskey for the men)

I think it's a Greek tradition. Although, I have never seen a bowl invovled. Normally the money is thrown around.

but do other people pay to dance with you, or do they just throw money at you while you dance?

My cousin did it at her wedding in Illinois, and even though I was very young, I thought it was pretty tacky. I'm from Florida, and have never seen it done there or here in NY.

this is what they do where I originally came from...it our cultural tradition. The reason behind because (in the old days) most guest doesn't have gifts so, they pinned money to both brides and groom as a honeymoon gifts. We plan to do the same....hey anything helps for my honeymoon...looks tacky for other people but its our tradition.

my sisterin law and brother did that. People lined up and paid them a dollar for fun in honor of a dance with them. They earned some extra cash to start out.

they don't need to dance with you..some will just get up and pin money on you but as sort of a 'thank you', you kind of need to dance with them..men or women...believe me once 1 or 2 persons started everyone will follow.

Around here it is the tradition, we are not greek. You slow dance with guests and they just give a dollar for a turn that lasts a short time. It is a good way to see each of your guests if they want to dance for a few seconds and a great way to get a few extra bucks for the couple. It is not considered tacky at all here. I guess every place has different traditions.

Yes--I know this is a Filipino tradition and my cousin did it at her wedding last year.

JMO--I think it's tacky though and am quite adamant about not having it. My parents hate the idea as well. I know people have made a decent amount doing this, but I just find it to be in poor taste.

usually the guest either pin it on the brides dress or the MOH and BM stand with a bag that they put the money in... they did it these 2 different ways at 2 weddings i went to
