I've been there many times to see my cousin play and I've also gone to see other bands... I didnt care so much for it because there was not enough seating, if you chose to sit... and they never enforced the no smoking law and Im very allergic. No offense to any smokers, I just can not physicall handle it. I dont think I made it to the end of even one show. So I wont miss it.

I was bummed to hear this.
I thought it was a good venue to see bands play (esp. after they renovated). They had some great 80's bands perform there as well! (Berlin, Psych Furs, The Alarm, etc...)

I saw my favorite U2 tribute band, the unforgettable fire.

It was a great place and easy to get to

i saw berlin and glen tilbrook there it seemed like a good venue for those type of 80s bands.

I know...I'm really bummed. I saw a few bands there, but the most memorable was Anthrax back when I was first PG with Amber (maybe 4 weeks along?). No wonder she has such an appreciation for Heavy Metal

BIL's Katrina benefit show got moved b/c of this. He played the Downtown often. He told me that they ran into debt b/c they made too high of gaurentees for bands b/c they wanted to take away the competition. After a while they couldn't keep up with the gaurentees and paying the staff, which was often overstaffed, along with the high cost of insuring the place. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else tried to buy it and run it.

Oh no! I loved the downtown. DH and I were planning on going in november to see big shot and rocket man, the billy joel and elton john cover bands. I was on their website a few days ago!

Wow I had a feeling it was something like this. I loved it there and had the best time at many a show (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was probably my favourite show). But even that show there was NO way they made the $$ back for the cost of the band....
