The dress

The dress

Does anyone know...

Typically how long does it take for a dress to come in once it's ordered?

How long does it usually take for fittings to be completed?

How long it took for people to fine 'the one'?

FSIL & FMIL are getting antsy and want me to start dress hunting, so I figured I'd start end of next month, which will give me about 17 months until the wedding. Is that too soon? My plan is to go about it leisurely and take the time I need to find the styles that look good on me and what I like/don't like.

Re: The dress

I think it depends on the store and the designer how long a dress can take.. it can be a couple months or 6-8 months...

I don't plan to go yet though, cause a)I'm too fat! and b) I don't want to fall in love with something now and either wait to order while I lose weight and then it's unavailbale, or order somethign I love now and find out later I love something more cause I have SO much time to look at other stuff.

So I'm waiting til about 12-14 months out (August-ish) to go shopping to optimize my choices but make sure I have plenty of time to get my dress in and have my dress decision done in time to pick BM dresses that will complement it.

I think even if you wait another 4-6 months you'll have more than plenty of time and still have the leisure to not be in a rush. But if you want to go now, that's totally up to you!

Re: The dress

my wedding isn't till next june and i just went this weekend to pick out my dress. there's pros and cons to both situations... the pros of going early is that you may find something you love and get it right away and not have to worry about finding a dress closer to the date and use that extra time to focus on other arrangements, and if you don't find a dress right away, you'll have plenty of time to keep searching. the cons is that if you find a dress now, new styles may come out after that you may love more...

so you need to figure out which is more impt to you. the stress or the style. i chose a classic dress... so it'll always be in style.. and also a corset back.. so even if i do lose some weight.. it'll still fit perfectly .. and also.. now i have one less thing to worry about.

Re: The dress

I've already been dress shopping a gazillion times and the last dress I tried on was 'The One'. It was actually one I had been eyeing for a longh time and I was able to locate the sample at Monica's Bridal in Brooklyn. Even before I tried it on I had the feeling it was my dress and as soon as I put it I just knew it - I didn't want to take it off!!

As far as ordering, we will most likely be ordering at the end of April/beginning of May (so about a year out). I believe the woman at the bridal salon told me that the dress will take around 8 months to come, so if that holds true it should be here around December. I don't think I would need to do the first fitting until around March and then the last fitting should be no later than 3 weeks before the wedding.

i agree with jewle!

everyone is different tho...

some girls find their dress right away

other girls take forever

i started searching in november...didnt find it until march...and i went to about 10 stores!

i knew id have a hard time finding something so i started early

and as far as ordering...i find that alot of stores play games

kleinfelds told me that my dress wouldn't be in on time for july without a rush fee

bridal salon of manhasset told me it would be in june 1st if i ordered it that week with NO rush fee

and when i first started shopping bridal stores told me it takes me a minimum of 6 months for dresses to arrrive...

reallly???!!! cause magically my dress can be ready in 3 months with no rush?

Re: The dress

i agree with the other posters - but i have to say, that my FSIL and not houding me per se, but they keep asking me when i will stsrt looking. I'm not etting married for another 1 year and 2 months! i have plenty of time to shop for a dress and i don't want to pick one and then look again and fall in love with something else.

you should start looking when you feel like looking, not b/c other people are getting antsy for you....

I was married before and ordered my dress from Kleinfeld's and it took a bit over 3 mos. They're lying.

Re: The dress

I went shopping the beginning of Feb, so a year out. I was lucky and found 'the one' on my first trip, 4th dress on. The lady at the store said it would be about 8 months. They will hold it at the store for me until my first fitting in December.

I think you have plenty of time and I wouldn't worry about shopping yet if you aren't ready to.

Re: The dress

I went dress shopping about 4-5 times before deciding on my dress. I put the order in for my dress in December and the woman told me that my dress is expected to arrive in July. I can't wait!!!!

Most dresses take about 6-10 months, depending on designer.
