So I was surprised to say the least when my God Mother who lives less than 2 hours away in Poughkeepsie did not show up for my shower... I was hurt and angry especially because she never called to say sorry that she didnt come or send a note or nothing. Now yesterday we find out that the 7 people from Poughkeepsie are NOT coming to the wedding because the economy is bad and they said gas is too expensive.

That's kind of depressing, I don't like when people say they can't do something because gas is too expensive. Just seems weird to me. Sorry to hear that.
Where are your shower pix?

Especially for your god child!! I mean they both work and have really good jobs. I feel like it is an excuse. I would rather they come and give no gift at all if that is an option for them.
Also they can stay over night at our families house as we always do for events. I feel like it is an excuse.

i know exactly how you feel. I've heard some pretty lame excuses myself!!! And when people tell me they can't come cause they dont have $$ to give a gift.. i tell them we want them there cause we care...not for money (although that helps..lol).. but seriously... i feel like people should at least be honest if there is another reason for not coming..gas is high for everyone right now.. and ppl still manage to do things.. pretty lame!! hugs again!!!!

It just stinks, because people who were OOTers who said they would come when the STD's were sent, now can not come because the cost of flights and such. It is about 12 people so far that I have heard economy related issues from.. It stinks because they are all family I would love to see.

Please!! that is what I said!! It would take MAYBE 2 tanks of gas.. They work Monday to Friday, they would not be losing any time at work and could stay at a relatives house here (which they have done before). SO... all in all 7 people = 2 tanks of gas and less than $20 in tolls.
NO GIFT NEEDED

I am so sorry to hear that. People need to suck it up and if it means decreasing the gift a bit then so be it, at least they should be there as you walk down the aisle!!! Especially since you are so close to them!!!!! it is one thing if it is an acquaintance but a god mother???!!!! That really s****!!!!

Re: The Economy and our Weddings-
Try what I did. We got married on LI and DH and his family are from woodstock NY (about 3hrs away). So, they need to pay for gas, tolls, and a hotel room. I told them I do not want $ for the wedding. Instead of a card with $ use the $ you would give us to pay for your trip down. This actually got most of his family to come. We also have been married for 2 months and about 2 weeks ago his aunt sent us a card with a check in it saying sorry so late but needed that extra time! I would rather have family there then a gift!
