So my mother just got notified she will be laid off soon And FH has been searching for a job for 5 months (double ) SO I think I have to push my date back. I was just reading my contract and it says if you cancel 8 months prior you get all $ paid except $750 and then it says no refund on date change Does anyone know if this means that I cannot take the money I have already paid and put it towards a date in 2010? Any input would be great! I love my RH and really dont want to completely cancel just move it. I thought I would be more upset then I am but I am trying to be optimistic...what's one more year right? I figure now it gives the family time to get back on their feet and maybe with more time we can have all the things we really want. Any way I am rambling now (comes with nerves sorry).. Any information anyone might have would be great!! I think there was someone on the boards that went to thatched to possibly move their date, so maybe you could give some first hand advice before I make an appointment.

Re: The economy stinks
Your RH is in Suffolk, so the law dictates that prior to 6 months before the date, you get back all of your money paid thus far save 100 dollars...and you should be able to use any money paid as a retainer. If you get a hard time about it, I do believe that law overrides contracts.

You aren't rambling at all..I know how you feel. Believe me! But I think you should call them up and explain your situation. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to use the money you have already paid towards a 2010 date.
Many Blessings!

Re: The economy stinks
from what you right I would think the no refund on date change is that they hold all you money for that date??? like they don't give your money back they just hold onto it

Well first off I am very sorry for what you are going through. If you and FH are in agreement to push back your date then good for you.
Hopefully by next year things will be better.
As far as your RH, I've never been there but I think if you talk to them and let them know you will push the date back then you should be fine. I'm sure they would be willing to work with you especially with these hard economic times. Hope all works out for you!

Yeah I think that is what it means too.... Call and ask...

Ya I am going to call tomorrow... But you know how once you get something in your mind you have to know now? Just thought I would take a shot and see what everyone thought. I have a KILLER migraine from all the stress and my nerves, so I thought maybe some piece of mind would help with that too. Thanks ladies!

Re: The economy stinks
We moved our date from 1/5/08 to 1/3/09 and stayed at the same RH. We had to move our date because my mil was receiving chemo and my dad had to have a major surgery, so there was no way I would have had our wedding without these people. They didn't give me a problem at all and I canceled my date with less than 4 months. I did have to pay a slightly higher amount person 5.00 extra, but I also had another year to save so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Re: The economy stinks
I would definitely call! I'm sure they will try and work something out with you. As other girls said the economy is hurting everyone right now, so I'm sure they don't want you to leave completely and go to another RH.
I think that even if you change your date, they should just transfer all the money to that date.
Good Luck, and I'm sorry you have to deal with this. The Economy really does stink.

Re: The economy stinks
When I changed my date at my original hall all I wanted to do was change dates and they wouldn't apply any of the money that I had put down on my original date to the new date and they wanted to increase my per person by $11. So i told them to Screw IT and changed venues because the new price was crazy and they were trying to be greedy. Not to mention they had rebooked my date.
