Ok so yesterday was FMIL's 50th bday and we threw a surprise party for her. We knew the uncle was going to be there. So he and his partner get there and Jordan (FH) and I say hi, how are you nice to see you, etc...then we just walk away. We thought today is not the day to hash this out but we don't want to go up to them and hug them either.
So we played it cool and the Uncle started talking to me several times about random things, like the ranch dip he made and FH's old job at the humane society and just party chit chat.
So fast forward to the end of the night and both he and his partner come up to hug us both and then get this...he pulls FH very close to him and hugs him tightly and says...'You know I love you buddy'
AND THAT WAS IT! No I am sorry, no explanation nothing. Now he may have been thinking the same way we were in that FMIL's 50th birthday was not the time and or place to hash this out.
So we are just going to leave well enough alone and when we send the invites at the end of November we will see how he 'formally responds'. So that is the news! Keep us in your prayers!!

Interesting. I have no idea whats up with his uncle. The whole situation is just weird. I really hope it works out for you guys in the end..

Oh sorry this is an update from a situation that happened last month. In a nut shell this uncle basically raised FH and we are very close to both he and his partner. And we wanted him to do a reading in the ceremony and the uncle sent back a rude email saying I decline to do a reading and I decline to attend. No explanation and FH was heartbroken and we hadn't seen or spoken to him until this party.

Maybe there is something between his uncle and his partner. Are you getting married in a church. Churches are obviously not same-sex friendly, so maybe FH's uncle wanted to do a reading but had personal issues with participating in a church ceremony, or his partner did?
Either way, it was a very touching moment. Maybe this was his way of saying that his decision not to attend has nothing to do with FH at all but with someone or something else neither of you is aware of.

Oh I saw update and was hoping for a much better resolution for you but at least this seems a step in the right direction - glad he sad something kind to your FH but wish it had been more!

i praise you and FH for your decorum. i am the kind of person who would have pulled someone aside and blasted him. I also wished you had better news but I am glad that he was pleasant. I definitley want to know the outcome as far as the invites go.
