I'm not a big fan of the high cp. I like a more cozy and down to earth look. Thats just me. I would also be worrying about them tipping over. Especially if you have candles in the high cp. Thats just me. Do what you think is best.

Re: The Great Debate: High vs, Low centerpieces?
I love the high CPs especially if the room has high ceilings....low CPs can get lost. Of course, the low CPs are way better if your room has low ceilings b/c high CPs are really overwhelming. Also, (and this is really obvious) high CPs are ridiculously expensive. We're doing half high and half low to save some $$, but still get the effect of the high CPs. My florist said this only looks good with a lot of tables, but he said we'd be fine since we'll have more than 20 tables.
This is is like trying to debate wearing a blusher or not, or whether to wear your veil all night, or picking between a band and a DJ....I think every bride has their own opinion on this...To each his own, right?

One concern I have with high centerpieces is that it is difficult for ppl to take home with them at the end of the night, as the base is usually rented and folks sometimes don't want to walk around with flowers that are not in a vase, etc.

IF you ask, many florists, like mine, will provide the hall with a stack of colored tissue. At the end of the night, the waitstaff separates the CP arrangement into bunches to be wrapped in the provided tissue to give to each LADY to take home. It is nice to be able to send EACH couple or lady home with a momento. I have seen it done.It is quite nice and appreciated by everyone. Besides, I always hated it when someone felt entitled to take home an entire centerpiece regardless of what was under their plates.

I am bias.. I love HIGH.. Low to me does not look much on the table.. but that is my taste. My place has really really high ceilings. My friend did low fish bowls and they were beauitful. I guess everyone has different taste. This is a tuff one

Couldn't decide so we're probably doing both!

Re: The Great Debate: High vs, Low centerpieces?
I have to say that I have always been a fan of the low CP for the reasons stated by most (create a more intimate setting, hard to talk over, etc). Not to play devil's advocate, but what about hanging centerpieces?? I think those are beautiful and are not in everyone's way when they are seated for dinner.

Re: The Great Debate: High vs, Low centerpieces?
I think flowers whether high or low are beautiful.
I prefer high, and I am suprised that many people say they have a hard time seeing someone at the other side of the table. I would think, unless really low, anything other than high would create a viewing problem, ie: flowers in a vase. I guess it depends on the middle part. Mine was very thin, so people could see fine. But either way we want our guests up dancing and mingling rather then sitting at the table.
Also, the table was set so that the CP were inbetween people. Our guests were able to take the top and bottom of the CPs home. The were in a small plastic bowl so when placed on a table, they looked great.
1. What is your budget? Tall centerpieces are beautiful but they're expensive because they need more flowers to look full. I've seen tall centerpieces but with mostly fillers and well, to be honest, they look very cheap!
2. How many tables do you have? Can you do both? It's always nice to have your cake and eat it too!
3. What is your theme? I know you're having a black tie wedding...IMHO, black tie to me means impressive flowers. Whichever option you choose, the design I think should be grander than most.
We're having a black tie wedding and initially thought that we could just get by with having candelabras BUT felt that since we were asking for a little extra from our guests that we should do that little extra to them. Our centerpieces are high but weren't killer expensive - $130/each.

Re: The Great Debate: High vs, Low centerpieces?
High centerpieces are often more LABOR INTENSIVE and that is sometimes why they charge more - not just because they are high. Some are topiary arrangements - those take time to put together in order to create the illusion of a perfectly rounded ball. It takes more time to do that than to make a smaller arrangement low to the table.
I took this from an old photo album of mine. These were my sisters low centerpieces that ended up costing only $25 less each than mine will and her wedding was 16 years ago. It leads me to believe that amounts (and even types) of flowers may determine how much centerpieces will cost and not always high versus low. Just a thought.
Well, high ones have an impact when you walk in, but not so much once you're at your table. Low ones you can look admire all night. But I also think it depends on the room.
I agree; The high ones look great from afar-however, once you sit down you generally only see the 'stem' of the centerpiece. I originally wanted a mixture, but I am now sold on low. It totally depends on your room though. In my case, the room is so tall and open that I don't think high centerpieces would look right. JMO-go with what you like!

Low CP are 'elegant' also.

High centerpieces can be designed so that they are high enough so that seeing across the tables aren't a problem.
High centerpieces make for an impressive entrance and everytime you get up and dance you see how wonderful they are. And between sitting and standing, I'm hoping my guests spend most of the night standing and dancing.
I agree!

I'm having high CP with a skinny holder so they don't take up a lot of space. There are beautiful holders, like the ones filled with water and flowers, but they can block your view.

Re: The Great Debate: High vs, Low centerpieces?
I am doing low and debated for weeks in my head-the tables are an odd oval shape though so I went with low CP's with higher candles.

I agree-I prefer low CP but have seen very lovely high ones I also have seen very Fugly low and high ones, so it is without a doubt preference, taste and quality
BUT i would NOT say either is NOT elegant

We are having low for the the reasons stated here - they are less expensive, and more than that, I feel that it is difficult to talk to someone on the other side of the table with high centerepieces. Both are beautiful, its really up to what your budget allows and person preference.

High ones look nice , but can sometimes block peoplee's view of someone across the table. Also, very expensive, is it really worth hundreds of $ on something most people don't notice or care much about?
