The Jewler Wants to Keep My Ring to Size it

and I am really really nervous. FI spoke to him this morning and said he can do it, but since its white gold, it would have to be polished and he can have it ready for us tomorrow afternoon. I am scared. Friends have told me never to leave it, which is why i havent had it sized yet.

Please dont be mad at me, if you have seen this post before, I did reseach this topic and saw some threads about sizing, but not about leaving it....also, my ring has a different shape in the back, its round against my finger but the edges are thick and kind of squared off. This jewler made it and is familar with the ring, but I still have an uneasy feeling

What should I do? I can't concentrate right now

uh, NO I would not leave my entire ring with him.

If it is necessary for him to have the ring to size ( I had mine done on the spot) have him take the diamond out and give it to you.
Some jewelers will actually take diamond out and place it in a temporary setting while ring is being sized/fixed.

I have to leave my ring due to a unmatching baguette that has to be replaced and 1st ting he said was, I'll take your diamond out to take.

I dont trust ANYONE. JMO

I wouldn't leave it either. My jeweler always told me never to leave my rings. There should be no reason as to why you can't be present for this or like previously stated, have then take the diamond out and give it to you. Is your ring there now?

NO WAY JOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you know this jewler VERY VERY well, you should never leave your e-ring with him!

I have heard SO many nightmare stories. It's just not worth taking a chance, IMO.

I made up my mind, I am not leaving it, and yes it's the same jewler that FI bought the ring from. I don't trust anyone either, especially since he already has our money, he could very easily hand me back a piece of glass.

Do any of you girls know a jewler that can size it on the spot for me? I work in Manhattan, but live in Valley Stream

I would take it to Tri County's jewelry exchange on the weekend. They'll do it right in front of you!

Thank you guys for your help, I was really panicing there for a minute, but I knew exactly who to turn to----LIWEDDINGS Yeah, I can make it over to tri county at some point this weekend.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I've heard the WORST stories - such as the jewler switching your diamonds!

when you get off the escalator at Tri County make a left and you should see a 'jewelry repair' sign. use those guys (they're Russian I believe).

They charge a little more than the others, but they are SO good! they're perfectionists.

I left mine... Don't worry about it ... People make such a big deal about leaving there ring when it really isn't .... If you don't mind me asking. What jewler is it... Most don't have people in shop to do the work... I know mine send the rings out to get fixed, sized ,ect.... Besides if you go somewhere where they size rings on the spot, you may have problems later on... They are not taking the time to do it correctly, since it is rushed... Just something to think about...

If you want the name of the place wher I go just FM me and I will give you the information...

I left my e-ring with my jeweler overnight once, when I needed it resized for the 2nd time. I trusted this jeweler though. You definately have to be able to trust that you'll get it back. If you have any doubt whatsoever, don't do it!

I go to Philip Joseph in Bellmore. Right across the street from the train station. They do everything on the spot. She is the one who told me never to leave my ring.

I agree. I left mine to get sized but this jeweler is where he bought the ring from and you have to have an appt to go there. I wasn't worried.

Is the person who is going to repair it on-site? If so, tell him you want to stay while it's sized.

I had to have the head (setting) for my center stone repaired. My jeweler took out the stone, put it in a baggie and made me hold it and sit and watch while the jeweler doing the repair did his work. I did not leave the room my ring was in while I had my $$ center stone in hand.

I've left my ring with my jeweler, Estate Jewels of Huntington, for over a week but I completely trust them and they're really reputable. It doesn't hurt that I also have a blueprint of my diamond that I can have another jeweler look at to see if my diamond has been switched. I just wasn't worried about it, but if you have a bad feeling and you're not 100% sure about this guy, then don't do it.
