The Jewler Wants to Keep My Ring to Size it

and I am really really nervous. FI spoke to him this morning and said he can do it, but since its white gold, it would have to be polished and he can have it ready for us tomorrow afternoon. I am scared. Friends have told me never to leave it, which is why i havent had it sized yet.

Please dont be mad at me, if you have seen this post before, I did reseach this topic and saw some threads about sizing, but not about leaving it....also, my ring has a different shape in the back, its round against my finger but the edges are thick and kind of squared off. This jewler made it and is familar with the ring, but I still have an uneasy feeling

What should I do? I can't concentrate right now

Do you need it made bigger or smaller? Mine was slightly too big, I got a ring guard and you can't even tell. I don't want to have it permanently made smaller b/c if I move it to my right hand it won't work

I made up my mind, I am not leaving it, and yes it's the same jewler that FI bought the ring from. I don't trust anyone either, especially since he already has our money, he could very easily hand me back a piece of glass.

Do any of you girls know a jewler that can size it on the spot for me? I work in Manhattan, but live in Valley Stream

Try Matthew James, I think that's the name. They are On Rockaway Ave. in VS.

They are very nice and a friend bought his FI's ring there.

when you get off the escalator at Tri County make a left and you should see a 'jewelry repair' sign. use those guys (they're Russian I believe).

They charge a little more than the others, but they are SO good! they're perfectionists.

I SO agree with this. These are the guys who repaired my ring...it's now flawless. Thet do AWSOME work, and I HIGHLY recommend them!!

You girls have made me soooo nervous! I left my ring with the jeweler that FH got it at to get it sized - now I'm scared!!

My ring was sized before my eyes in less than 15 minutes! Granted it's platinum but still. I really don't think there is a need to leave it. Tell him you will come in a day when he's not busy and can do it then and there!

Good morning girls, I just wanted to update you on the situation. I did not leave my ring with the jewler, even though I trust him about 95%, I can't take that 5% chance. The ring is a half size to big, I had it measured at a jewler a friend recommended, who, by the way also wanted to keep it, and I said no. I am going to make a few phone calls this morning (if I can do it without my co workers being nosy) and see if I can get an appointment this evening or tomorrow afternoon. I am going out of town next week, and I am on a mission to have it sized before we leave. Thanks for all your help. You have made me confident in my choice.

I wouldn't leave my ring.

I would not feel comfortable.

You hear all these 'horror' sortories of diamonds being swapped out... not worth the worry to leave it.

I second Tri-County... they do it on the spot.

In Green Acres Mall the jeweler opposite the
Gap is very reputable (can't remember the name of it). The jeweler is there on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Depending on the work that needs to be done, they should be able to size it for you while you wait. Just keep in mind even if you wait for it the work is usually done in the back of the jeweler's store do we really know what's going on back there? What I can suggest is that you have them use a diamond tester in front of you and test every single piece of diamond in the ring before you give it to them and when they return it to you. Even then, we still cannot be 100% sure. How do we know it wasn't switched for a lower quality? Either way we can't really win.
