The LIRR hates me.

We were supposed to go to some bars in the city tonight for my bday... I just went to check the train schedule and got this:

On Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24, there will be no train service between Jamaica and Mineola This service suspension affects the Ronkonkoma, Huntington/Port Jefferson, Hempstead and Oyster Bay Branches. As a result, buses will replace trains and customers should allow 30-45 minutes of additional travel time. To avoid lengthy delays, use South Shore branch trains.

WAHHHHH! On to Plan B I guess.

can you drive to a southshore train, park your car there and take the LIRR.

so wait, the train is running by you just that there is no service between mineola and jamaica only right? can you take the bus then from mineola and take it to jamaica, im sure trains are running from jamaica to penn station and a bus ride from mineola to jamaica shouldnt be too far bc theyre not that far from eachother. It might not be that long.

OR not sure if youre willing to do this, but if you dont want to wait for a bus bc it might take long, from mineola to jamaica how about taking a cab from mineola to jamaica. This way it will be alot quicker.

i know...they did put extra services on the south shore...which is good i guess if you dont mind traveling a lil to get on a train...

o well! lol

They also did this during the week in the morning last week. Dh had called me bc they had to do a job in LI, one guy he works with had to take the train in so while he was at work he called me to find out what time he would need to take the train from penn station. First i feel bad although it wasnt my fault, but i told dh there are 2 hempstead stops, one is hempstead gardens, he just guessed that its hempstead. But i found out later that the trains were going from jamaica to mineola so he also had to take the bus, and then got to the wrong hempstead station and was lost for 45 mins , he was late but of course dh didnt care and understood. But i feel real bad bc this guy lives upstate, and the commute was bad enough if there were no problems but im guessing the whole trip probably took over 2 hours maybe closer to 3.

eta: we are goin to the meadowlands tonight and basically winging it...we have no idea really how to get there from penn so we are just gonna see what happens ...lol we figured if we get 2 penn we wil somehow get there lol

i know, when dh told me this guy has to take a train from upstate to get to work i felt so bad just for that reason. I feel bad for this guy bc his license was suspended he had no clue, then he goes to find out, well there was a mistake and it wasnt supposed to be suspended, there is another guy with same exact name and they suspended his by mistake instead of the other guy so he cant use his car. On top of that you think they would just fix the problem but he has to go to court to get it fixed. You have no idea how bad i felt when dh told me how he was lost

have fun though and hope its an easy trip and not too much of a pain

yeah god knows how long it can take. I remember hearing about the JFK train for YEARS until it was finally done. Not only that but it was supposed to originally go to other parts too but it doesnt.
