Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

The groom was robert, jr. and his dad just goes by bobby so he got shortened over the years to (don't laugh...ok, go ahead) 'BJ'

well, FH and I had never heard this in all the years we'd known him and even when we hung out with the friend and his now wife, she called him robert then, too...but not so at the rehearsal dinner...people actually got confused as to who 'robert' was when we would talk about him!!

anyway.....

in their vows, they used just Kim (instead of Kimberley or her whole name) and just BJ (instead of his whole name as well).

so instead of
i kimberley marie smith take you robert james jones, jr ....

it was
i kim take you bj.....

we all laughed (a group of friends sitting together) quietly b/c it just seemed odd to us...now thinking back, they made it rather personal really.

Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

At a wedding I went to last year, they had a program book at each table with the story about how the couple met, interesting facts about the couple, the explanation of the table names, thank-you's, etc.

I'm going to do that, as well, but add the menu into that booklet - as well as the lyrics to all the special songs at our wedding. I thought it was VERY personal and let the guests into their lives a bit.

Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

My cousin had the best wedding ever, last August. It was at the Bride's family's vacation home in Windham, NY. It was all outside, the lawn was HUGE- we sat on hay bails, covered in white tablecloths.
After the ceremony, there was a plane circling above, taking a photo.

Some of my male coworkers REFUSE to call me BJ. I just laugh it off and introduce myself as BJ anyway. People can't handle calling me by my given first name of Bonnie-Jean. I don't like being called just bonnie, so I tell the lazy ones to call me BJ.

Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

My cousin got married at their house on top of a mountain in Vestal, NY. Every Aug. they have a hot balloon festival & they planned their wedding that weekend, so right after their vows there were at least 20 hot air balloons flying overhead. They also had the reception outside under the stars w/ a tent for dancing/dinner....

One of their gifts from a guest was a baby cow!!!!!!!

Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

At my cousin's wedding in Sept 2004, a new spin was taken to the son-mother dance. We're all used to the typical slow dance, but not these two. It was all caught on video and worked out with the DJ, but they start slow dancing and then the DJ cut into a techno dance song and the two of them slid across the floor dancing and the mother was doing this as well, kicking her heels up in front of her and flapping her dress up, then the song cut back to the slow song and the two of them held hands and circled the dance floor, then the techno song came back on and they were swing dancing, etc and did this about 3-4 times before both songs ended. By the time the dance ended, both were red faced, laughing and having a wonderful time and it had every guest on the dance floor in a circle watching them in amazement!!! It truly was a personal dance for the two of them b.c their family were partiers!!!

Re: THE MOST UNIQUE THING AT A WEDDING

not sure if it's unique per se, but I went to DH's cousin's wedding a few years ago and they had an almond theme.

the entrees all had some type of almond garnish, the favors were sugar coated almonds and their wedding cake exterior was ALL almonds.

I hope there was no one there who was allergic to nuts
