The nerve!!!!
I can't believe the ba!!s some people have. I just answered my buzzer and this woman says that she has something for DH. I buzz her in and a few minutes later a 50ish woman is standing at my door. I open the door and she asks to see DH. I inform her that he is not here but I am his wife. She hands me our opened abatement check for $400. Apparently she recieved it at her address 9 blks up from us. She says that she doesn't want to give it to me she wants to give it to DH and then 'He can give me what he thinks I deserve.' The rest of the conversation goes as follows.
Me : 'Oh, so you want money for bringing this to us.'
Lady: 'No, I am not asking for money, but I did have to take a cab here.'
Me: 'Why did you not just mail it to us? And why is it open?'
Lady: ' I wanted to give it to him personally.'
Me: 'Because you wanted money?'
Lady:' Well, I could have thrown it away.'
Me: 'But you chose to bring it here. You could have put it in the mail, but you brought it in person because you want money from us. You want me to give you money for doing the right thing.'
Her: ' Well, I could have thrown it away. I could have just kept it. I could have....'
Me (with check in hand): 'And I Could do this.' And I shut the door in her face.
I would have given her a couple of bucks, but the only reason that she did not mail it to us was because she wanted $$$$. I am not going to extorted by someone. Plus, she opened it. Sure it could have been an accident, but as soon as she saw it was a check she decided to try and extort money from us. The nerve of some people.
