***the new*** Official 30+ Brides

Original post by BT2011

I noticed that there was an old thread called 'Official 40+ brides' that was turned into 'Official 30+ brides'. Just wondering if the 30+ brides are still out there for 2010, 2011, and 2012. Is this your first marriage? What about your FH - is it his first? Do you think your wedding experience will differ from that of younger brides? I am learning quite a bit from the younger brides (love them to death) and wonder what wisdom you 30+ brides have to share.

I am 35 and will be 37 by the time I get married. I've never been married before. My FH was married once before.

Happy to see this- FH and I are both 37- we are doing some of the traditional stuff- bridal shower, bachlorette party- although it will be something very low key. at the wedding we are not doing the whole garter thing, no rehersal dinner, small bridal party. its so nice to know i am not the only older bride on here!

We did not do the garter/bouquet toss. And our RD was just 6 people. us, BP, Mom and brother.

Instead of garter/bouquet, we did an anniversary dance. It was a huge hit. The last two couples were seperated by 6 months. 40+ years and still going strong. So many people came up to us and said that they wanted to get married again so they could do an anniversary dance.

Funny story my cousin was waiting all day for the bouquet toss. When she found out I was not doing it, she almost cried. I pulled her to the side and we did a bouquet toss just her and me and another cuz to take pics. She was like one of 4 single people at the entire reception.

My fiance and I will be 36 and 35, respectively, when we get married, and neither of us has been married before. I definitely did NOT think I'd ever be the type to get wrapped up in all this wedding stuff, but I have to tell you - I'm really getting into it and I like it!!! :)

As for being older... maybe it's because of this that our wedding process is relatively drama-free. My fiance and I know what's most important and try not to let minor things get in the way. I'm just so incredibly happy to have found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, and can't wait for the day that we become husband & wife!

*** Edited for a grammar mistake... I'm a teacher; I should have known better!!! :-P***

I feel the same way. We have actually been enjoying planning. And it has been drama free (so far). I have also noticed that we don't seem to feel the need to look at a million places, florists, photographers etc. Once we find what we like and we think the cost is OK we just do it.

Once again I'll bring it back to FSIL who is 25 and marrying my brother. They have looked at a ton of photographers and can't seem to pick one. FH and I saw one and booked on the spot. When I told her what we booked etc. she turned her nose up at it because of the cost (too cheap/can't be good) and that they haven't shot a wedding at our RH. I could give a crap. They told us they would come with FH and I to see the place in advance of the wedding and that was all I needed.

i'm 29 now but i'll be 30 when i get married. do i count?

i say we both count

ABSOLUTELY!!!

If you are willing to claim 30+ then you definitely count. But once we let you in there is no turning back.

So, are you both steering clear of the cutesy wedding stuff or are you indulging in traditional wedding rituals (i.e. bachelorette party, e-pics, wedding theme, limos as opposed to driving your personal car, etc.)? (This is not a 30+ test...there is no right answer.)

Welcome!

Hi!
I was the 'old lady' who started the last 40+ turned 30+ thread.

So glad to see that you girls are starting up another one.
It was great to see the difference in what us older brides were doing compared to the 20+ girls.

Good luck to each and everyone of you and if you dont mind I would like to chime in every now and then.

Of course...chime in as much as you like. We can definitely benefit from your wisdom. Thank you for starting the last 40+ turned 30+. Reading the posts encouraged me to get it going again.

While I love all my brides to be and newlyweds, it is wonderful to not feel like the only 30+ bride out there. I am loving all of the different takes on what it means to be a 30+ bride.

Keep 'em coming ladies...you are truly inspirational!

It is amazing the emphasis placed on the bouquet toss. You were nice to take care of your cuz. A friend of mine at work (she married at 30) told me about the anniversary option. I like it! I believe she also gave away the centerpieces using the anniversary thing. I will double check.

My FH asked me whether I wanted to do the garter thing -- I think he may be embarrassed by the whole exercise. I told him that we definitely can do without that ritual.

Nice to know that there are couples out there not doing the e-party. I was under the impression that I should do it to introduce the families to one another. Might do something small at home -- if I go any bigger it will have to be a super casual BBQ for close friends and family. Maybe a joint shower. (Not sure FH will go for it.) To tell you the truth, our wedding reception may be the 1st and only party my FH and I ever host.

I am definitely into the planning a bit more than my FH. I would like to incorporate a few cutesy things, but I have a cute threshold. I am going more for elegance. Understated is definitely my mantra, but FH might disagree. He has started to call me mini-bridezilla or bridezilla-lite. I don't think he knows how 'bad' it could be. Maybe I should jokingly ask him to look in to releasing white doves at our wedding ceremony.

Hi...I was on the former 30+ brides thread also with Celia (Future Mrs H)....that's great that you ladies have started another one Are you girls planning to toss the bo-k or the garter thing? I couldn't have either, I was the last of my friends to get married lol and there wouldv'e been no one to catch it

Hi Kirsten!!

i didnt do a BoQ or garter toss either. Same reason as Kirsten. What we did instead was do the anniversary dance. For those who dont know about this- its when all married couples get up on the dance floor and the DJ/MC will ask'anyone married under 1 year- please leave the dance floor' and it will go to 5 - 10- 20 etc years untill the last couple is dancing. We gave a bottle of champage to the winners.

This was the pic of the winners- they are married 64 years

No garter or BoK toss for us - we will do the anniversary dance. We are a relatively shy couple. FH doesn't want the attention on him when he would have to take the garter off. Plus most of our friends are married or divorced/single and may not want to necessarily highlight that fact during that portion of the evening.

Awww...it will be beautiful! As long as it feels right to you and your FH, that is all that matters.

Another couple of questions I have for all the 30+ brides:

1) Who has simplified the speeches and special dances? Anyone have any stories about excluding them?

2) What about being 'given away' during the ceremony? Anyone excluding this.

3) I am thinking of this for the processional (thoughts/opinions welcomed):

*Groom and Best Man takes their place at the front with the officiant/priest
*Maid of Honor walks up the aisle (Sister)
*Matron of Honor walks up the aisle (One of my Best Friends)
*Jr. BM walks up the aisle
*Ring Bearer walks up the aisle (tentative on having one)
*Bride walks up the aisle (No escort or my mom as I grew up in a single-mother household. My dad may attend if I invite him.)

We had only a best man's speech. Originally it was supposed to be BM and MOH. At the last minute they changed it and I did not even know before hand. He had been forewarned to keep it short and sweet and don't try to be funny. And he did. It was beatiful and quick.

My brother walked me down the aisle, so I can not help on that one. It was important to me. Also, we only had a BM and MOH. A family friend escorted my mom down the aisle. And an uncle did a reading.

As for special dances, they all involved my family.
DH's family was not at the wedding. Instead of a father/daughter, I did brother/sister. I also danced with my mom to a song of her choice. We did a first dance and the DJ suggested inviting the other couples onto the dancefloor during. I declined and sort of wish I had not, only because it was a long time (felt like 4 hours) for everyone standing around looking at us.
