I wonder what kind of Pope we'll have next. He has big shoes to fill after John Paul II. He was such a sweet looking man. God bless him. He is one person I wish I could have met when I was in Rome 4 years ago...but he wasn't there at the time.

If you are related to a Bishop, or higher, you can meet the Pope.
10 years ago, my mom's cousin (a Catholic Bishop), took his siblings and their children to the Vatican and the Pope did a private Mass and blessing for them. Other than having that type of connection, it's pretty much impossible to meet the Pope unless he's doing a public ceremony (and then there will be MANY people there)

Re: The New Pope...
I still wished I could have seen him in person, if not up close then from a distance.
I heard in the news that prince charles said he plans on getting married on Friday, whether they have the pope's funeral or not.

I just read the opposite.
Unless he changed his mind. I did hear it last night so maybe he had a change of hear.

Re: The New Pope...
DH and I got engaged in Rome in '02. We saw the Pope from his balcony and took a picture. DH said 'this might be the last time we see him alive'. Really bittersweet memory....
He actually looks like my grandfather!!! Guess it's the 'Polish look'.

Her statement was right. As of yesterday he was getting married on friday, but pressure from the Queen made him change his mind quickly.

I was lucky enough to touch the Pope's hand as he passed me in a crowd - my mom has met him several times - I think he was a truly great man and I hope that the next Pope follows in his footsteps.
It's so hard to imagine a Pope who isn't JPII - he's the only one I've known in my lifetime!

Oh wow that's great that you got to touch the Pope's hand. I can't imagine seeing a new pope that isn't JPII...It's going to be strange.
