do you have to do your SS right away? doesn't it just effect your pay and taxes? So can I do it when I'm ready to change my name at work?Can I just do my license for now and then SS later?

FYI, some halls (NYC for example) only require 1 form of picture ID. You do NOT need a birth certificate.
Also, for SS name changes, you can go to any SS office except if you live in Brooklyn. All Brooklyn residents must use the Brooklyn SS office.

Can I just do my license for now and then SS later?
you can wait to do it. i think you can't really change your name at work until you do SS or you may not get full credit for your earnings.

thanks soo much for posting this info!! I know when we get our marriage license i can change my first and last name. I'm just worried that DMV, SS Agency, etc. will have a problem amending my first and last name.
has anyone else changed their first and last name? BTW- i'm just changing my first name from Patricia to Tricia. Also all my documents (birth cert, bapt cert, d.l. and ss card) all say my current name so i'm hoping that will prove i'm really who i am. TIA!!
