The polls were packed!

So I went to go vote this morning... and our voting spot is at our local firehouse... and I couldn't even get down the block! There was no parking and a line out the door. I couldn't believe it! At 7:30AM it was that bad.
Usually when I go you can hear the crickets chirping in the background!
A few of my co-workers had a similar story, I think this is going to be the best turnout in history.

Maybe my boss will let me out early today

at my train station in Hartsdale, there was voting set up for that district (its not my district so it did me no good, unfortunately). It was SWAMPED with people, the line was going out the door. I've never in all my years seen anything like it

It says a lot about how many pepole feel so strongly about their vote this year. Very impressive

There was voting at the train station? I never heard of that. Sounds like it would jsut add to the congestion.

Exactly!! I thought it was totally weird also... its bad enough that the train station sells tickets, has a Starbucks, sells newpapers, and is the size of a shoebox. With a polling booth in there, it was so confusing. But very convenient, too bad it wasn't my district to vote in

That would be great. However, with the polls open to 9, I can't see justifying that. If I leave at 5 , I can probably get there around 7, provided I can find the place.

The 2hr window is more like an 'unwritten law'.

Companies allow this to prevent bad PR. The last thing they want to hear is 'Company X... would not give their employees time to go out and perform their civil duties'.


But I do agree that nobody needs 2hrs to vote. Well... maybe except for my boss... who commutes from the the Poconos every day to work in the city (2 1/2 hours door to door).

My polling place was on 70th between 1st and 2nd. The end of the line was on 71st between 1st and 2nd! All in all it only took about 45 minutes from the time I got on line until I was finished voting. I was glad I went this morning though because I could not imagine waiting on a block long line after spending the day at the office!

I had no line in Syosset at 8:00 a.m. I voted at an elementary school, and the kids were there! They didn't have the day off. I thought that was horrible. All those strangers entering the school with the kids there.

I just wanted to make sure, since I can't vote until after I get home at 6:30, then I have to take the dog out and put him back in his crate while I run down the street to the elementary school polls. I wonder what the lines will be like this evening - lots of voters after work too, so I hope it's not too bad. My pup's been alone all day!!

Yup- in NYS- 6 am-9pm!
I don't get hoem untill 6:30 or later either.
I have to map out directions to my polling palce, wait for Dh to get home from his old polling place & then go.

Yes, he should get to leave early
man, that SOME commute! Our director (boss's boss) lives in Maine, but he only comes in once a week for 2 days, then flies home.

thanks tourist! I'm still trying to decide if I should just take the dog out, then feed him after I get back from voting, or since they're open till 9 - if I should just feed/walk him like I normally do and rush over once he's asleep in the crate..... I might do that, but I'm not sure yet

no matter who wins, it's good to see people getting out and doing it

but i will say this, if there is another controversy, there will be a drastic decrease in voters the next time around, especially if bush wins

i'm a bush supporter and if he's gonna win, i hope he wins cleanly, so we can put the argument that 'his brother got him in' and all that other stuff can be put to bed

I believe you just have to be in line by 9pm. They can't turn you away if you're in line and have to stay open until everyone in line votes.
