The Pregnancy Police...

The Pregnancy Police...

Has anyone experienced these horrible people? Some times I wonder about them! I walked into a beer distributor the other day to get some cider for DH… you should have seen the looks that I was getting… it was ridiculous!

I did extensive research on this topic while in graduate school and it infuriated me then… Now I just want to take these people and shake them… I mean come on… just leave the poor pregnant gals alone!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

This came up on Friday at happy hour-- 2 of our friends are pregnant (both due in Dec) an at one point one of them asked us what we wanted and she went up and got us 2 beers!!
We joked around figuring someone had to say something or make a face , anything--NOTHING
I agree that you should ignore them--who cares what they think

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

This story has nothing to do with pregnancy but it aggravated the heck out of me. I took my grandma to the dr a few weeks ago and this lady was at the front desk waiting for the receptionist. Well, she turned around and was staring and I mean staring at us for several minutes. I was about to say to my grandma 'Do you know her' to embarrass the woman because she obviously had a problem.
I didn't say anything but it was very annoying. Maybe the woman had a mental problem.

My SIL. PREGNANCY POLICE. My husband's nan was in the ER, and I went for 5 MINUTES. Cell phone message the next day....'ya know...MY doctor told me to not go NEAER a hospital...blah blah....'

I asked my doctor. She said that as long as I wasn't sleeping over in the communicable disease ward that I should be fine. And that the person next to you at a diner could have active TB and the person in the ER is probably healthy as a horse, in there with a broken foot!

It's so annoying. The feeling that people are 'watching' you....

When I was pg, I got SO much UNWANTED advice about *everything* from mothers (including my own) .

It gets worse once your baby is here!!! 'he needs a hat'... 'he breathes funny'...'he's gonna be huge'...'why aren't you giving him water already'??? AHHHHH shuddup!!!!!!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

OK, I have to add that the worse 'baby now here' police for me is my HUSBAND, is anyone going through this with their husband and your new babies???? I could clobber him sometimes....

Does he NOT think I know how to take care of my own child??

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

I've had run ins with them as well.

The BIGGEST pains in my *posterior* are those who say 'Do you have (fill in the blank with heartburn, leg cramps, stretch marks, etc.) yet?', and when I say 'no, not yet' they have to cheer me with 'Oh just wait!! You'll be MISERABLE!', and they say it with such excitement and happiness, as if they can't wait for me to suffer!

Lord no, Camille!! Steve absolutely defers to me on everything... sometimes too much!! 'Honey, could he be hungry??', 'Honey, does his diaper need to be changed??'

I'm like - you're with him..does he stink?? Is he eating his hand and making that cute fish face that lets us know he's hungry?!

I will say that I went out for dinner the other night and left Steve home w/ Sean for 3 whole hours and he did juuuuust fine!! Although, Sean sleeps from 7 p.m.ish (like clockwork) until 6 - 7 a.m. so daddy had it easy!!! My boy!!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

Wow Kathi you are lucky, Mia sleeps in 4 hours stretches...I can could on one hand how many times she's slept more than that.

Yes Brian LOVES to take care of his girl and he's a know it all...he has a brother who is 18 years younger than him so he is very comfortable around Mia because he helped take care of his baby brother when he was little.

He was home alone with her one day last week and he was home with her yesterday and he LOVES it, when I got home he was still HOGGING her!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

That is what my husband does...with the DOG! She barks and he turns over and says 'does she need to go out?

Um....what AM I ..a DOG WHISPERER?!?!? I have NO IDEA what she needs to do?!?!? I mean...we could try taking her out...who knows?!?

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

I know how lucky I am w/ my boy's sleeping habits (of course my 'know-it-all-mommy-sister' tells me 'it'll change') I don't care if it does, I'm enjoying it while it lasts!! He's been a good sleeper since 4 1/2 weeks, sleeping 7+ hours/night.

Anyway, that's GREAT that Brian is so good w/ Mia!! Steve was a nervous daddy at first but he's getting more and more comfortable w/ Sean. He better bc I'm going back to work next month and I can't take Sean w/ me!!

Jenrenee, I must add that your cry is the cry of a lot of women, my gf said why does everyone need to tell her the worse story about themselves or someone they know etc, etc, she says she just want to scream, I am me and everyone is different. I am sure she would feel your pain

My other GF says the same thing about her hubby treating her as if she is dense and does not know what to do with their child She said she said to him the other night, since you seem to be the expert why don't you fix it

Jenny you are one funny woman, : am I a dog wisperer

All these reasons you gals posted is why I want to move atleast 5 hours away from my family, especially from the IN-Law's when I have a baby.

I now have the 'Your still here?' all the time at work Hello yes I am. I also have a few parents who touch my belly and tell me it's not hard enough yet. 'You still have time' with this smug look on their face, I really want to punch them! Then the 'oh you'll know when your in labor' people when I ask how it feels. Well not everyone knows that why they end up having their babies in a car or in their house

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

Stacey when people ask you if you are still here...just say 'Nope'. It shuts them up every time!!!!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

I had Patrick in July & at the time I worked in the Village. I always b!tched to my co-workers about this. they thought I was overreacting UNTIL... I even had (NO LIE) a homeless man tell me 'Damn, baby I hope your drinking lots of water. It's to hot for you to be walking around the city' My co-worker couldn't believe it. You will hear it from everyone.

The after is just as bad. My husband comes home every now & then w/ advice from his bosses wife. I just roll my eyes like whatever.
Whenever he questions my parenting skills I tell him 'He's alive & breathing then I'm doing my job right!! '

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

I was confronted by the Preggo Police last night!!!

Patrick and my dad were painting the baby's room, and they asked me to run to 7-11 to get them a few beers.

I was waiting on line and EVERYONE was staring at me. Finally the man in front of me turned around and said 'I hope that's not for you.'

I wish I had a smart come back ready, but all I could manage was 'No, it's for my very hard working husband who deserves it.'

NOSY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

Funny stories

People can be SO RUDE and annoying

However, once I DID have a coworker who was CLOSE to her due date, and was sitting there with a cigarette in one hand, and HUGE mug of cold beer in the other! I wanted to be the Prego Police and SMACK HER! She made a remark when everyone looked at her like 'MY doctor said one beer a day wont hurt'.
IT WAS DISGUSTING TO SEE HER !

I also get the MOMMY POLICE. People see how 'GOOD' John Anthony is and they say 'OH WAIT Till the second one!'

Re: The Pregnancy Police...

I hear the Mommy Police are worse than the Pregnancy Police.....

I am NOT looking forward to that. I have the unfortunate situation where my mom and dad live 6 hours away. My older sister is 2 hours into CT. My little sister is closer (in NY), but still not super close by.

But my HUSBAND'S FAMILY is basically right next door in every direction....

LUCKY ME.
