Re: The Price of Food
It started happening when oil went up and when ethanol started to be used as an alternate fuel...double edged sword.

Re: The Price of Food
Now that the price per barrel of oil has increased, it trickles down to everything else that needs to be transported.

Re: The Price of Food
It's so true. I try and go to Costco and Bj's and buy on bulk and although you initially spend more but over time you end up saving...it's crazy between food and gas prices

Re: The Price of Food
wow thats a lot for apples! We go to a veggie/fruit market for ours and saves us a lot- although now with the price of gas taking an extra trip out there probably wont pay- but the produce is about 1/2 the price of the grocery store

I haven't really noticed yet in the store, but I know I kept reading that the prices were going up. It's just too much.

actually they say the sales of peanut butter and rice has gone up...i think people are eating more PB&J sandwiches as well as rice instead of corn- used for ethanol and other expensive foods...

My mom had mentioned this too. Produce prices are on the rise because of fuel costs. It's sickening!

Re: The Price of Food
I have totally changed the way I shop and eat. I try to only buy things on sale, and I am going to start going to a farmer's market by me. By just looking at the circular for Stop and Shop the other day before I went shopping - and buying things that were on sale, and waiting on those that weren't - I saved $15. Look for sales, shop around, and if you can wait on the steaks until next week, do so. If chicken's on sale, buy it even if you don't need it now.
With the way things are, I have come to realize that I will need to change the way I live in order to decrease the dent in my pocket. I try to buy gas only at bjs now - even though it's not a huge savings, it is a savings - so whenever I am near one, i fill up. Thank god I only work 4 miles from my house! I used to work 15 miles away, still not bad but i thought the other day, oh my god I would be going through so much gas if I still worked there!!!!
