The REAL Fortunoff Story....and vendor RAVE

I was at Fortunoff today, I asked a LOT of questions, and the girl I spoke to, who had been with the company for 10 years told me if I wanted to start moving my registry over, I should do so, the corporate offices fired 300 of 377 workers yesterday and the compnay is up for auction on February 20th. They don't know what is going to happen, if no one buys them, they are going to close, they are no longer accepting their own Fortunoff card, nor american express. There is no more stock, what you see is what you get. Rumor has it that the daughter of the original owner is going to try to buy it on auction, but again, that's only a rumor. I took my printout and went to BBB to start moving things over, they were great, customer service was excellent as always. I also, for my fine china, luggage and appliances went to Bloomingdales, and I must say, their service was TOP NOTCH!!!!! Bridal Consultant Diana helped me out, along with Darrel in Luggage and Jay in Small Appliances and Tom with my coffee maker, and they made this process easy and fun, as bad as they feel for fortunoff they are grateful for our business, girls, all I can say is that if you have a registry at fortunoff, move it to Bloomingdales FAST, they may be closed before the end of the month, I didn't want to believe it, but I along with my MOH and parents talked to a number of people in the store today and we were all told the same thing, when my mom and dad asked what happens to all of the brides and grooms to be they were told 'Gee, I dunno, I wish them luck'..................LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 How about you NOTIFY us of whats going on instead of keeping your heads in the sand and letting us twist in the wind!!!! As sad as it is that they're closing, I love that store, they need to be honest with us brides and let us know whats going on. So, alas, THAT is the story with fortunoff, move your registries, move them now, avoid a lot of headaches later. HTH

Penny, you didn't lose it . . .just go spend it before you leave on Monday. I went Thursday night to spend ALL of mine. I also made a few more returns from my shower, and instead of giving me credit, they put it right back on my MasterCard. I wouldn't risk it and wait till you get back from the HM

OMG!!
Can I just tell you THE BEST things about Fortunoff's gift cards right now?!?!
I was there last week, Wednesday, and over last weekend I had $400 in gift cards to use! So I bought the Kitchen Aid Mixer and a bunch of other stuff. So a few days later (Tue) I find out from FH that someone already bought our mixer and it was never taken off our registry! So I went back to Fortunoffs (in NJ, happened to be working there on Wed near another Fortunoff's). So I go in exoecting to return my mixer and get a pot set and a whole bunch of other stuff to get rid of the money!
So the saleswoman tells me I have to go all the way to customer service to make the return--I thought this was odd. You're not going to belive what happens next! She tells me that she cannot give me back a gift card! Immediately I thought FOR SURE I was either getting screwed out of the money or was keeping the mixer! So she tells me that she can give me $200 CASH back, b/c that's the most she can give, and she can put the rest of the balance on my credit card!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FORTUNOFFF'S!!!!!! I'll take it!! So it all turned out awesome! And then as an added bonus I went to go spend the rest of the $30 in gift cards and bought a necklace for my Flower girl. I ended up becoming friendly with the saleswoman and seh felt bad that I was registered there and she gave me 10% off the necklace!! I was SUPERPSYCHED!!!! Just thought I'd let you all know my success story! Good luck to you all who still have gift cards, and GO use them soon!!

Do they have liquidated/severely reduced prices, or just the 15% off they're advertising for Presidents' Day?

Just 15% off. I think most likely a liquidator will buy them at auction next week.

Yea I ordered my wedding band from them and I found out yesterday its definitely not coming in. I have to go back tomorrow and have them refund the money.

Im so glad I kept on calling and following up with them because no one from the store called and told me the ring wasnt coming in. I wonder what would have happened if I had not called?

While I agree it would be nice if they notified us to move our registries - do you think that would help them at this point? Everyone seems to be upset about them closing here. Now is not the time for them to be turning away sales. I understand we all feel slighted by this, but at this point they are in survival mode.

My registry is with them as well and I will be waiting until i see the doors locked before I move it.

Hopefully, I won't have to!

To be honest, I know you're a loyal customer, as am I, but if you wait until the doors are locked, it's going to be too late and you're probably going to have a LOT of issues moving your registry over, just a little friendly advice from one 6/6'er to another, move it sooner rather than later

I agree with you.... also considering the fact that I have called and noone told me to run, so I will wait and hope. Worse comes to worse, I move my things around

Yea this is why I changed mine as well. Also due to the fact that everytime I called about my ring, I kept on getting the run around or no one answered the phone. I dont blame the workers really, I blame corporate for not keeping their people informed. I kept a comforter on there so when they go out, I can watch for the price to drop and buy it myself. Also remember even if they are still around and possibly liquidating before your shower, your guests may have a hard time finding things for you, and you might not be able to return things either.
