i got married there in May and was very happy with everything. the service was great and they were beyond nice about my dad having a heart attack days before my wedding when I thought i might cancel - BEYOND amazing.

also the food was delicious and people stuffed themselves and raved about it the whole day and night. You can't beat what you get - the views and the food etc. - for the price.

we also tasted the food before we booked and were very happy with it.

That is important! I should also mention that my cousin who got married there had to postpone her wedding about 3 months because unfortunately, her mother was very sick and passed away before her wedding. My cousin told me that they were wonderful about the situation.

Like you said an opinion is just someones point of view. If you like it there and like the food then go for it. Nobody at my friends wedding complained about the food or the place it was just the service.
Examples-
dishes and glasses piled up on everyones table during cocktail hour
longggg wait at the bar
staff never filled water pitcher even after they were asked several times
Whomever you deal with at The Riveira just express your concerns about the service complaints you have heard maybe then they can retrain their staff. Good luck with your search!!!

My friend who is a BM at the marriott liked the food there very much he suggest for us to check it out and we never needed to. This was 2 years ago that he went to the wedding there, i would suggest poping in when a wedding going on to watch the machine in action to see how guest react, service and the overall operation.

I know someone who has been there, she said that its nice but only if you are going to have a small wedding, as the space was really tight.

The outdoor area is very nice, the inside is not impressive at all (IMO). If you are looking for elegant, it's not the place for you. And the tables are set up so that people in the back cannot see the dance floor.

I went to a wedding there and immediately took it off my list for my own.

The food wasn't terrible, but the service was HORRIBLE!

I really think service is a key element to having a great day. And although the place was pretty and the view was gorgeous, I couldn't believe the service.

The bartenders were sitting atop the coolers eating while there was a milion people at the bar waiting for drinks. I understand they have to eat too, but do it in shifts, go in the back, don't ignore guests while you shove food down your throat in front of them.
Water glasses weren't refilled, dinner service was a nightmare while the servers attemted to figure out who ordered what. Auctioning off food is never acceptable at a wedding.

I would express the concerns about service to the catering coordinator before booking!

Good Luck!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!

I just had to bump a post here because I have to have this stated..

I just had my reception at the Riviera and everything that my guests had to say were the complete opposite of everything that's been said on this thread. The service was phenomenal, the food was fabulous, and the look was beautiful, rustic and intimate. Everyone had a fabulous time and my parents have been getting calls off the hook raving about the food, the atmosphere, the service and the fun.

As a bride, I have to say, everyone was so accomodating. There wasn't a moment where my glass wasn't filled or there wasn't someone asking if I needed anything. They were so attentive and sweet; they did whatever they could to be certain that I had a great day.

After my wedding, I just can't imagine how the Riviera has gotten the feedback it's gotten on this post; I simply can't. It went so far above and beyond my expectations I can't even put it in words.

So brides considering the Riviera, whether posters or lurkers, take it from a bride that just got married there last week - it is worth every second of your time and every dime in your wallet!! You won't be sorry, and you'll love every minute of it!!!

I got married there in August and I have to say, it was great. I'm very surprised by some of these negative reviews. You have to also consider its a great value for what you pay. If you want white glove service and four-star cuisine, maybe this isn't the place for you but I thought the service was great and the food (from what i had time to eat) was also great. Our guests had nothing but compliments. I also have to point out we never got a typical catering hall speech from them. They were always easy going and would spend lots of time just shooting the breeze with us in the office helping us make deicisions about the wedding. Not the mention the setting is beautiful. We had an absolutly perfect day and I would highly recommend checking it out.

My sister was married at the Riviera in March of 2007 and everything was great! The food, the service, all of that. I thought it was a beautiful place and they made you feel like it was yours while you were there since it's one party at a time.

Ladies, can you please tell me how much the room can really fit? I am so close to booking there but with the food opinions and size of room im not sure.

We have about 175

Thanks!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!

If you think all 175 will show up, DO NOT have your reception at the Riviera. I think at about 160, they start putting tables on the dance floor. It's just very tight. They say they can fit 220, but I have no idea how that's possible. I'd say 150 would be good. Check out the space- I LOVED it, but even at 150, there are tables with no view of the dancefloor.

If it's an incredible weather day, it might not be so bad because people would be outside as well. But in addition to everything else to worry about, do you want to worry about mother nature making or breaking the day?

I just think it's too small for 175. Although, remember, expect around 20% to decline, so it may be fine.

Ok thanks, well we are inviting 200 so im counting on about 175.. I called them today and told them my concerns and this weekend theres a party there with 200 so I am going to check it out, I do not want it to be too tight, but we just loved the place.

I'd say it depends on you and your crowd. This was my original concern because I was certain that I would have 175, and, originally, I was told that they would have to put tables on the floor with that number, which I didn't like. However, if you look at the seating chart, it IS possible to fill up the round tables with up to 12, which means that, technically, you COULD have that number without having to have tables on the floor if you really wanted to. Now, having seen the tables of 12, I have to say that nobody really complained about being crowded. I had about 150, and there were some tables with 8 or 9, in which there seemed to be ample space to have more people.

Another point to consider is this, which is what Michelle, the banquet manager told me - people have no problem frequenting restaurants in which they are very close to total strangers, so she doesn't see why people would be reluctant to put tables of family members close together.

Besides, this is considering that your guests will be seated most of the time, which is never the case. People were up at the dance floor, taking a quick step outside, walking over to the bar, going over to another table to say hello to someone else, so it never seemed that space was an issue.

So, as for a number, as I said, it's up to you. I felt that 150 fit beautifully, but I don't think it would have been so bad to have been up to 175. I don't know about 200 though; in that case, I imagine they'd have to put tables on the floor. If they're having that party, your best bet would probably be to check it out.

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!

i recently went to a wedding here. the food was good. i wasnt going crazy over it, but everything was just fine. the view outside is beautiful. even the inside is beautiful. but it is a very strange setup. our table was behind a pole and we never got to see the first dance. we tried to get up and move a little but it was kind of cramped to do that. i didnt really see a problem with the service. just that they only had one bartender. it was pretty tho. good luck
