Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
My best friend was married there this summer and I have to say the place is very pretty but the service was HORRIBLE. My fsil had a friends wedding 2 weeks prior to my friends and said the same thing. The power went out half way into the wedding and the staff was no where to be found all they cared about was rushing everyone out. People were serving their own drinks. My elderly mother asked several times for water and never received it. If you are interested the place is nice and the food is good I would just express the service complaints that you heard and I'm sure they will fix the problem. After all was said and done my friend still had an awesome wedding.

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
I thought the place was beautiful, and it is....however, i would HIGHLY suggest a FOOD TASTING before you consider booking. I got so excited about the place, I failed to taste the food. When my fiance and I went, it turned out to be not what we expected. Do extensive research BEFORE you have your heart set on a specific DATE. the date can be changed, the food that you serve your guests, cannot. All the people that we dealt with were very helpful and kind....I was lucky enough to get my deposit back.
Good luck.

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
I think I posted this a few weeks ago, but I was at a wedding last year and the bartenders were doing shots with underage guests. We didn't really care about how old they were, but while the bartenders flirted, we couldn't get a drink. Also, during dessert, we were actually waiting on line behind the waitresses for the chocolate fountain. The wedding was still going on!! If it were my wedding, I'd be pissed that my guests were waiting because the staff was enjoying themselves.

We are getting married here and so far everything has been great. They are very accommodating and letting us have our way really. We tasted food and everything we tasted was AWESOME!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
My cousin got married there a few years ago. I had a great time at her wedding. The place was beautiful and I enjoyed the food. FH and I looked there and it was a beautiful day, and I could not get over the view! However, we ended up booking at The Historical Thatched Cottage because they were able to give us a better price and more for our money. They have a beautiful view as well, so I'm happy! Good luck!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
we're booked there, before this post i hadn't read anything bad about it. we loved the place and the staff so far, but i'd check it out in person to be sure. they say it can hold 220, we wouldnt want to put more than about 180 personally. there are also some pics in one of my albums. FM me if you have any other questions about it.

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
Wow; I'm surprised to see so many negative comments! I'm getting married at the Riviera this Saturday and I'm SO excited, partially because I've heard nothing but positive reviews about it for the past year and a half that I've been engaged.
Let me start by saying that, in my opinion, the most stressful thing you can do when you have your heart set on a catering hall is to ask other people for their opinions. When you try to find a place that EVERYONE loves, you're out on mission impossible; there will always be a few people who have issues with one place or another. If YOU love it, and you try the food and it's good, then you ought to book it, whether or not one person or the other didn't like it.
But just to give you a different view on things from a MORE than satisfied Riviera bride...
I'm so confused about all the food complaints here; I thought the food was out of this world there when I went for a tasting!! I had the eggplant rollatini and, I swear, I would have inhaled the entire tray if you set it in front of me. I also tried beef teriaki, swedish meatballs, mussels...all yummy!
Also consider that every person has different tastes with food. I'd say go by a majority. You're always going to find someone here or there that doesn't like the food - and, hey, if your taste buds aren't happy, it's ultimately your wedding and your decision. However, I've talked to TONS of people who have been there and read dozens of reviews, and one of the most common praises I've heard about this place is that the food is very good. That doesn't mean everyone will like it, but, hey, if it's your wedding and you don't, you just don't book it. I have a feeling that you will, though :).
Another thing I MUST say about this place is that they have been SO kind and SO accomodating!!! They've thrown in extras here and there, considered all of our questions and concerns and have been complete and total professionals. I'd recommend this place to ANYONE!!!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
love the place itself.. the outside, the decor.. but Ive been to 3 recent weddings there, and the food was mediocre at best, and the service was less than desirable. Lots of people love it there, but food is really important. The cocktail hours were not impressive either... the fish I ordered had so many bones in it too.

I was at the Riviera about a year ago for a co-worker's wedding, both DH and I really liked it. The views were beautiful.

I came very close to booking there. I thought it was absolutely beautiful. I had a tasting of cocktail hour food, and thought it was very good. Don't ask our opinions -- have a tasting and book it if you like it! Good luck!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
i got married there in May and was very happy with everything. the service was great and they were beyond nice about my dad having a heart attack days before my wedding when I thought i might cancel - BEYOND amazing.
also the food was delicious and people stuffed themselves and raved about it the whole day and night. You can't beat what you get - the views and the food etc. - for the price.
we also tasted the food before we booked and were very happy with it.

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
my friend was in the bp of a wedding there recently and said the customer service was terrible- she had to serve herself at every station during CH: including the carving station!, one bartender for over 140 people, the fireplaces were lit and no air conditioning and things the bride could have prevented: cramped space for tables/seating
Sorry but you asked... HTH and good luck!

Re: The Riveira in massapequa!
I always hear that the room set up is horrible and so is the service.
