My FH is now interested in the Riviera in Massapequa. Has anyone been there? How is the food, service, etc.?

Re: The Riviera
I may be a little bit partial...
My FH used to work PT as a DJ at weddings. He's worked at lots of places on LI and this was his favorite. I went there to see it and I fell in love.

Re: The Riviera
Thank you very much. I'm new here so I'm not exactly sure how to find your review but I'll look around.
You really should go see it. I love the place. In case you haven't seen their new website I am providing a link below. You can view the photo album and see what it looks like.
I'm just curious, for all the brides that picked Riviera, which Banquet Manager showed you the place? I fell in love with this place when I saw the website. However, after seeing the place, I was completely dissapointed. The man who showed me the place took us in the office first to go over menu and pricing, then took us to the main hall and said he'd be right back but basically left us there to fend for ourselves while he started talking to people who walked in without an appointment. So we toured the whole place ourselves with none of our questions asked. Then, when I tried to ask him a question, he gave me a hard time and aked me if I had an appointment. I just met with him 10 minutes before that but he didn't remember me. I honestly think he might be suffering from Alzheimers and I felt bad. However, the whole experience turned me off from the place. Did anyone have a similar experience or am I just crazy?

Hi all,
I'm just curious, for all the brides that picked Riviera, which Banquet Manager showed you the place? I fell in love with this place when I saw the website. I had a similare experience. I had a 5 pm appt, met with a woman (dont recall her name). We went into the office, she gave me menu and $. Then led me into the lobby and to the room. In the lobby there was another person there who also had a 5pm appt, and then the office phone rang. She went to get it and never came back. I showed myself around, when I went back to the lobby she was chatting away with the other person. I asked if I could go upstairs, she said 'sure', I did, then left.
I liked it, but was not impressed with the lack of assistance. Also the price was a bit hi for us ($95 for a Fri nite in July '06).

Yeah, it's disappointing. They have such a good reputation and I always hear how great the weddings are there, but the lack of assistance really does ruin it. Also, if it rains, there alternate plans are to run a divider across the dance floor to do your ceremony then cram your guests by the bar for the CH while they are removing the wall and moving the tables around right in front of you to set up for the Dinner. I didn't like that.
The price I was quoted wasn't bad: $80pp on Sat and $75 PP on Sun. Both in May, both for afternoon. However, they make you guarantee 120 and I can't do that. Oh well! There are lots of other gorgeous halls out there. :)

Re: The Riviera
I'm really surprised to hear that. The Banquet Manager I met with was Michelle. We were able to tour the entire hall and even saw the room set up for a wedding they had later that day. She answered all my questions and I was able to negotiate a pretty good price.

Re: The Riviera
The Riviera is the BEST place to have a wedding reception. I just got married there last Friday and they were amazing. I have heard so many rave reviews about the riviera, people keep talking about it. I love that place.

Re: The Riviera
It almost seemed as though this guy was not supposed to be there. It was really strange. He also got some phone calls while I was in his office and he let it go to the answering machine and said that he didn't want to speak to those people. The whole thing was really strange. My fiancee and I were really confused after that night. :)
But, I'm really glad that everything worked out for all you ladies.

Re: The Riviera
we had the same experience when we went...we had an appointment at 4:00...at 4:45 they said they were backed up and then chatted amongst themselves( 2 people) for 20 minutes..at alomst 5:30 we said we had to go , we had other appointments and they asked if we wanted to go over some details....ummmm..no!
I thought the ocean view was amazing, but its a small venue, better for 100-125 guests.

Re: The Riviera
I had to deal with Victoria and Robert Jay on quite a few different occassions. Not only did I find them extremely sweet but they both made me feel like my wedding was the only thing they cared about for the time they were with me. I have been back there 3 times (to show family members and deposits) and FI and I are treated like royalty each and every time. I even went so far as to send a letter to the owner praising his staff. I was so surprised to read the negative comments, but not everyone can have the same experience with a place. My first time there I had to wait an additional half hour because they were running late, but nothing compared to the wait I've had at other vendors. I'm finding you get that experience at many places though. And any time I've had to call with questions, my calls are returned ASAP. In all honesty, Victoria (assisted by Robert Jay - my maitre d) were the reason I booked with the Riviera. FM me for any additional info. Donna

Re: The Riviera
We also met with Michelle and she was wonderful. So sweet and talking to us like we were the only ones she cared about.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, it really is a nice place.

Re: The Riviera
We met with Michelle. She couldn't have been nicer or more helpful!
We had an appointment and brought both mothers with us, because we knew we wanted to book the place. She answered all of our questions and was very attentive.
When someone walked in without an appointment, she left us for 5 minutes but came right back. The timing was perfect, as it gave us just enough time to talk amongst ourselves.
For a Saturday day in March 2005, prices started at $59pp. We have been very happy with them so far.

I went to visit the Riviera in August and I met with Victoria & Robert Jay. They were great!!! And I fell in the love with the place. After that I went back 3-4 times, and I bumped into that Man. Well if I didn't meet with Victoria first, I probably would have been turned off. But I just booked there today, and delt with Victoria, and she does treat you like Royalty... I am very pleased with my decision...
