The Riviera
Hi gals! Any thoughts on Rivera in massapequa? What do you love there and what are the drawbacks? I know there is an issue with one of the tables being on the dance floor if you have I think over 130? Thank you!!:)

LOVE the Riviera!!! The outside is gorgeous with the granite counters and setup, the only drawback for me is the sitting situation we are having 150 ish and we plan on having the photo booth in the back wing and our table and 2 tables for BP on the dance floor. The dance floor is big enough that it really won't be an issue. Initially I was totally against this but seeing the venue and talking with Vickie and seeing reviews and what not, I don't mind having BP and us on the dance floor.

Re: The Riviera
I went to the Riveria for a wedding and it wasn't the best service. The wait staff there has more than 1 table and the service was lacking a bit. We never received any coffee at the end of the night. They totally forgot about our entire table, which we were unhappy with. And they had a lot of people there, so I felt it was really cramped.

It has a very rustic feel. If that is something you are looking for & you are having a 'smaller' (less then 150) wedding then I would check it out.

Re: The Riviera
How many people for the minimum before they start putting tables on the dance floor?

it really all depends on how you setup the tables... I think you can have 13 tables with 10 guests and 3 tables with 8 guests before they go on the dance floor so about 150 but again it depends on where you're putting the tables. You can also put the tables in the back wing but I personally would rather then be on the dance floor

I've said a few things about the riviera in the past.. My sister got married there almost two years ago and it wasn't the best.. It was the little details that slipped between the cracks with them.Nothing disastrous, it was still a great night, but in the moment I was so mad that nothing was being corrected. And I didn't hear one guest say they were happy with the food
Edit: I don't want to offend anyone who is booked here! I think it is beautiful and it was actually the venue of my dreams physically but it just left a bad taste in my mouth

I've heard mixed reviews about it too but FH has had a few family events there and there has never been a complaint but everyone has bad days and it is worse to have a bad day as a catering hall when you have an event going on =/ We love the place but it's not for everyone that's all
There is definitely no offense taken here though

I thought it was great, but the dark wood in the reception hall turned me off. Even for a daytime wedding, it would need to be lit substantially. Other than that, the grounds are gorgeous, the food is outstanding, and Vicky was so great to work with. They were lower per person than what we're paying now, but it was the reception hall itself that turned me off.

We went to a tasting before we booked there and they must have been on that day because everything was great. and such a selection! The main room is dark and wooden but it's the rustic feel that I was looking for.. you have to go see it to really get the feel for if it. I think it's 13 tables before you have to put some in the corner but that's also a great place for older people that you know don't want to be by the lights or loud music.. you can just call and ask questions, they will tell you anything you want to know over the phone. I loved the outside look and the main room, I also LOVE the bridal suite and balcony.. and 1 event at a time made a big difference to me.. feel free to FM with any questions!

I had a few issues with the riviera (aside from the woman who gave me the tour... she was just... awful and it wasn't vicky. i think her name was michelle)-Our ceremony is going to be at the venue and I didn't like that people would be able to see me from the upstairs before I was actually down at the aisle.
-The bathroom in the bridal suite area was SO SO SO tiny. I could barely stand up in parts of it... let alone FH.
-The entrance/exit for the kitchen is ON the dance floor. I couldn't stop picturing my Uncle Patty getting down on the dance floor and then crashing into a member of the wait staff.
I also just wasn't crazy the look/feel of the cocktail hour.
Lastly: even though it was only one wedding at a time... I would've had to have a SUPER late wedding since they do 2 a day and I wouldn't have been able to be there until like 45 minutes before the wedding.
I initially looked there because it was cozy and rustic and I liked that feel. But I thought for a nighttime wedding in the middle of december... it was going to be TOO dark.
I hope I don't offend anyone booked there. These are just some of the drawbacks I feel were important to me.

I just came from the Riveria this weekend. In a word UNPROFESSIONAL AND INCONSIDERATE!!!The two women we dealt with did not take us on a tour, they merely said, 'my phone doesnt get reception outside, but you can go look' They took about 1 1/2 minutes to go through the menu options and then out we were pushed to go look on our own. When we arrived back inside about 7min later she was already meeting with another appointment. Then we watched her do the same thing to that couple. TERRIBLE
While the outdoor ceremony area is nice, it is right next to someones back yard (like a fence is the only separation). The water area had jet skis riding around and it was very noisy (this is something you cannot control), the indoor cocktail hour had terrible gold chairs and the bridal sweet smelt like a musty attic.
We were not impressed at all.

I agree about the outdoor ceremony space. I felt the same way, like I was getting married in someone's backyard. FH and I were totally turned off by that.

I went to a wedding there last year and had a lot to say after about the service and the people cleaning up the food basically in my face, they were throwing out people's unbeaten salad in a bin in the middle of the dining room. Plus the line for cocktail hour food was 30 people deep. I think for a small event it's fine, I've also been to a shower and christening there but for a wedding now way!!

I was there several years ago for a wedding. cocktail hour was outside, beautiful setting, food was pretty good! Once we got inside, I completely changed my mind about the place. It is an awkward space, our table was behind a beam and we couldn't see the dance floor. So we had to stand up and move around to see the first dance, etc.The food at dinner time, was not as good as what I ate outside at cocktail hour. It was cold.
If the whole wedding was outside on the patio, the view might be worth it.
