The road to home ownership is scary............ I remember writing this post now I am living it .
Me and DH have been looking at homes for a while, nothing real serious, just looking at the locations and quality, etc. and I have come to realize (I did realize before) but it is really sinking in okay - here goes, we were looking at homes we could afford NOW, both salaries, non-stop working BUT I had to cut that income almost in half because I have to think of the income when it is time to start a family, so if we were looking at $350k homes, we really should be looking at $250k homes and you can't get s--t for that. I am trying to be a realist about this process and it is depressning! Any Input?
NEW POST We found a house - bought it - we are in it - would like to start a family, there is no way we can pay the bills on one salary. Am I an idiot?

I really cant answer your question but I wanted to just tell you that I know how you are feeling. We are seriously looking right now. Actually have found a house but need to look at it a second time before making a decision.
BUt I will say that I have found my self freaking out lately, to the extent that I find myself breathing faster and running numbers in my head....its such a huge decision.
maybe you should look into condo/townhouse options...that way you can build equity and keep saving for when the right house does come along

We rent the top floor of our house...When the time comes to start a family, we will take the house over...For now, it really helps with the bills..

Same here!! We own the house, but rent out the top, so we only have 2 bedrooms right now. Once we take over the whole house, we;kk have 4 or 5, but for now it makes a MAJOR dent in the mortgage!

Start building your savings so you can afford to live on one salary for a few months. Then go back to work after maternity.

Any chance you can work part-time or work from home?
