When my FH moved into his house my FMIL sent over some items she had been 'storing' for him over the years. One item was a Bridal Doll that his Grandma 'Mama B' made 16 years ago. When FH told me about it I was excited (at first) b/c family and traditions are really important to me. When he showed it to me I changed my mind IMO it was very creepy looking. I try to keep an open heart and mind about things, but this is pushing me a bit far!
I have been kicking around the thought of how this Bridal Doll issue is going to play out on our wedding day. FMIL and us have already had some 'issues' over wedding planning and decisions. I do not want to offend her or Mama B, God rest her soul, if I do not include this doll somehow in our day. I DO NOT WANT IT IN OUR RH OR AT OUR HEADTABLE!!!
So I was speaking to my Nana about the whole situation. She's like 'yes the traditional bridal doll, it gets tied to the bride/groom's car the day of their wedding.' I totally thought she was full of ****, but she was dead serious!!! So I googled it today and found that she is right, its a Russian/Eastern European custom!! So now I have my plan!! ITS GOING ON OUR LIMO!!!!
Hope it holds up going down the highway Please don't think I am a horrible person for laughing at this situation, I am just relieved I have a plan and explanation for the use of the doll for my FMIL!!

That is a very nice tradition but I can totally see the creepy factor. The doll has some 'crazy eyes' Imagine waking up in the morning and that doll hovering over your head ahhhh

i honestly don't think it's that terrible!
What about having her as the placecard table cp???? this way everyone can see it & maybe you can put a placecard in front of her explaining the significance???

we are not having a placecard table our seating chart (poster size) is going to be in the foyer of our RH. that would have been a good idea tho!! thanks

Yeah you should stand up for yourself and put a stop to this dreadful tradition, will your really want to give your daughter that doll and make her do that for her wedding!

I can see what you're saying it kinda reminds me of the twlight episode where the doll tries to kill people lol. But if it's on the limo it's not so bad, it's better than having it at your table at the RH!

My aunt had one of them made for her--she hid it, and then threatened my sisters with it if they told on her It was a very scary doll

Holy f*ck if I had that doll she'd totally show up in random photos through out the entire day. Like Where's Waldo. I'd have her sitting on a church pew... sitting on the bar at the RH... I LOVE the doll.

my mom used to own a wedding store in hewlitt and she used to make dolls for brides as well. but she would get barbie doll type ones and order the hair to match and my mom would make the dolls dress to MATCH the brides dress - they were actually gorgeous.. if i ever find pics ill post them
